I had yesterday, what I believe was a Chemical Miscarriage - had 4 positive hpt earlier in the week (last one I did was Wednesday), and then yesterday I started bleeding. My period was due any time from Wednesday onwards, so that's why I assume it was a Chemical Miscarriage.
What I'd like to know is, how long does it take for the HCG levels to drop to a level that would show up negative on a HPT? I rang my GP and he said that Monday would be the earliest that I'd get a negative. It seems such a long wait until then. Has anyone had a Chemical Miscarriage and if so, how long before your levels were back to a pre-pregnancy level or before you got a negative HPT? Thanks.

:hugs: I'm very sorry for your loss.

I've miscarried twice at 5 weeks in the last few months. The first time my doctor insisted on multiple blood tests until my hcg went back to 0 - it took about one week. The second time I didn't bother going back to the doctor after the first test was very low and the bleeding had just started but I would imagine it was about the same, maybe a little less as my hcg level when I started miscarrying was lower than the first time around. A HPT would show as negative a lot earlier though - I think I did one on the 3rd day of bleeding with my first miscarriage and it might as well have been negative. There was the faintest of faint lines but only if you really looked hard.

I had the same thing happen at 5 weeks. I started to bleed 5 days past when my period would have been due. I had a positive on the day my period would have been due and also 3 days prior to that. I had a blood test the day before I started to bleed and the results were already negative, so I guess 4 days or so from the last positive hpt was all it took for mine to go back to zero.

I am really glad that I found this thread. I just woke up this morning with the heaviest period I had had in years. I am not trying to fall pregnant at the moment but I am not on any BC either so...... According to my chart I am not due for another week but I did suspect this month that I ovulated earlier than calculated. I have cramping but not bad cramping. Some may think I am being a little dramatic but my period is usually light, with no cramping. I generally get a spot 24hrs before and it is all over in 3 days. I have never woken up in the state I was this morning - scary. Thankfully my fiance had left to go Xmas shopping earlier - he would have been a mess had he had seen. I am suspecting that I had a Chemical pregnancy that I wasn't aware of.
