Am I the only one who is still brushing the teeth of their child ?
My DD is 6 years old and I still brush her teeth. I know she should be doing it herself by now, but whenever I let her have a go, she never does it properly, and I'm paranoid she will end up having a filling or worse !
Do you still brush your DD / DS's teeth ?:noel:
Your not alone. We still help DSD (5.5yrs) brush her teeth. We were told by the dentist to brush first and show her how its done then let her have a go so she will get the hang of it. They also advised that we should supervise it anyway so we know she is doing it correctly, you know what children are like when left in the bathroom alone haha.
 my son is 7 and I still brush his teeth.
Although I DO make him do it himself first, and I watch him. He is getting better at it though. :o

Actually, you're doing the exact right thing. Kids don't have the manual dexterity to be able to manage to brush their own teeth effectively until they're about 8 or 9. So, keep brushing for her! :D

Thanks girls, I thought I was doing something wrong by not teaching her how to do it herself by now !!
Cheers:thumbsup:

I had thought just as Tami said, that we were meant to do it until they were a bit older. My DS is almost 8 and while he can do it himself, we still have a go for him from time to time. Or at the very least, supervise him.
It is reccomeneded by dentsts that kids under 10 should be assisted in brushing their teeth
We do DS1's teeth for him at night time and he is allowed to brush his own in the morning. He has an electric toothbrush and does a pretty good job. I have weak teeth and have needed lots of dental work over the years so I plan to do my boys' teeth for as long as I can
My mum was a dental nurse, and she always helped us brush our teeth til we were 9 or so. Either she would let us have a go first and finish off or start and let us finish off.
I plan on doing the same thing! Don't think that helping them clean their teeth is doing them and injustice, LOL
DD is 5 and I dont brush her teeth but I stand with her and make sure she is doing it properly.
When she went to the dentist last year for a chipped tooth the dentist asked if I did them and I said NO. He said they looked great but he thinks mums should do their kids teeth until atleast 6 years old in most cases as kids alone fail to do them thoroughly.
I think if your doing them, its better than having them half done. I think slowly get your child to do it, at the same time you do so they take as long as you do and copy every angle you do etc and that way they learn thoroughly.
