Just curious to know what puts people off using cloth.

This is an anonymous poll so you can say what you feel.

WOW MM, you are really piling on the clothie threads today. :p

I was really apprehensive and worried about nights, because I didn't have a dedicated night nappy so had to work out what would work on my own.
But once I overcame that, it was ok.

DP's worry was the poop thing, but now that we have flushable liners he is much more willing.

I find carrying around a stash when I'm out annoying, and they leak more.

Dealing with poo! Better not have babies.

I wasn't worried about using cloth until I started! (With #1)
Then when I tried again (#3) but with dry pailing it was much easier. I did worry I would fail.

Hmm well babies (and kids too!) are all about poop, wee and vomit.

And occasionally dribble and blood too.

Don't have kids if you can't handle bodily functions.

Dealing with poo shouldn't be an issue - you have to deal with it regardless of the type of nappy you use! Even with disposables, it's a good idea to tip and flush... means less smell!

The main issue I had with cloth were the costs, and the fact that you could pay $30 for a nappy that turned out to be rubbish.

I tested out numerous disposable brands, but that's $20 for a pack of nappies... not $20 per nappy. I'd either just use up the pack, or keep them on standby as an "emergency" nappy in case I ran out...

I'm not rich enough to buy endless amounts of "standby" cloths, and then replace them with others.

The fact you have to order is annoying too. I know a few places sell a few brands of MCNs... but I don't drive, so that doesn't work for me.

Also very much dislike the fact that it's hard to fit pants on over cloth nappies. I know there are pants made to fit over cloth nappies, but (and don't shoot me here!), I find them unattractive and would certainly not spend as much as they are sold for!

DD was in cloth for a while... I was converted when she was a toddler. She's toilet trained except for nights...

But those things above really put me off cloth.

I plan to use a mix of cloth and disposables with any future babies. I'd love to use just cloth, but honestly, they just don't cut it for me due to the above. I can't go full-time with them as a result.

I think my main fear...is the fear of the unknown! :o Until I found BH I didnt even realise that MCN exsisted and thought that only hippies used terry flats (dont shoot me either!)

With terry flats I think my major concern would be stabbing the bub with the pin and my ability to fold a useful nappy! I have had some experience at this and was hopeless!

Now my limited knowledge of MCN and how they work is something that makes me look at disposables and prefer them as I have had OODLES of experience with babies in disposables.

On here I hear things about inserts and PUL and have no idea what these things do, how they work and what I would need when looking at buying MCN.

Like Sassy said - I guess another worry would be spending a lot of money on nappies that a baby may leak thru and will out grow...then what do u do?

WHEN I do have a bub I will definately look into MCN but a part of me thinks it will take a LOT of comprehensive yet simple to understand info to convert me!

I did cloth for a while with cobes, and it just became a pain in the backside when I started back at work.. too much washing, not enough time, and the cost to start up is horrific.
