Hi! I have tried to feed my DD lying down but havent managed to be able to do it. Anyone have any tips on how succeed? I would like to do this at night as I really need some rest/sleep and DD feeds 2 hrly 24/7 :reindeer:
Thanks

When DS was a newy I used to have to put a rolled up face washer underneath my breast to sit it up a bit so it reached his mouth... Its was also recommended to me to be shirtless and braless and for DS to be shirtless so he could enjoy some skin to skin time and so nothing fiddley was between us!

I still feed lying down at night (we cosleep). The way I do it is I have my head on the pillow (just one pillow), the bottom arm is outstretched (or bent at the elbow if DH is there) at right angles to my body, and DS lies there with his head in the little nook, IYKWIM.

I can even feed from the top boob (I'm about a size 12E, and NOT perky, so the top one easily goes down low enough )

I fed DS for 2.5 years and towards the end he was just too big for me to comfortably feed sitting down.

I would put my arm right up in the air, with a pillow under my head, DS belly to belly with me and he'd latch on.

I just had to keep trying different ways of lying down until it was comfy and worked.
It took a bit of practice but is really worth it - so much easier at night :)

Ditto

I also found that when I lay down I should place DS1/2 so that there nose is level with my nipple as this alows them to tilt there head somewhat

'Do your boobs hang low, do they wobble to and fro, can you tie them in a knot can you tie them in a bow...'

sorry kezzakids got a bit sidetracked! It does get easier with practise tho and makes night time feeds so much more easier!

Just lie down on the bed on your side with bub cuddled into your stomach with boob near his mouth... You will find your own way of doing it, and with a bit of practise you'll be doing it in your sleep :)

I used to lie on my side with the arm on the mattress under my pillow (like behind my head kindof) and just pulled bub close with the other arm.

Just lie down, shirtless and give it a go.

You will find a way.

The only problem I had with it was that pesky arm that needs to be out of the way in order to get bub to boob.

Tritto to what LG said :D

In the beginning, I used to put a pillow behind me (long ways down my back) to support me when lying on my side. My back used to get so sore without it but now it's fine and I haven't used the pillow in ages.

I think over time my muscles have really strengened so now it's a breeze .

omg you must master this!!!!!!!!! lol :p

I do it either by laying my son in the crook of my arm... (similar to how you would lie on your partners arm/shoulder) but this is usually a bit uncomfortable re back.

The best way for me is for both of us to lie completely on our sides, facing each other. I pull him up or down as needed so his mouth lines up with my nipple. He is now able from there to attach on by himself - so basically during the night I just move us both so we are facing each other, line him up, he does the rest and I go back to sleep.

We have to both be completely lying down our sides if that makes sense.

Good luck - will make life soo much easier.

Lol! I too can feed lyign on my back... I find this a really good position actually when he's a bit fretful - I think the effort saps the last energy out of him (plus prob good for wind?) and he conks out.

It took me a bit to get the hang of it too.
In the early days I had to be realy carfull how I offered my breast to DD or I would end up with a big bruise due to her sucking onto the wrong place.

I also found that I did not have to change sides to feed of each breast. Just roll towards DD a little more so she could have the 'top' breast.

Burping DD in bed was my problem. I would have to sit up for that, and I always layed DD on a towle as the inevitable milky spew would always happen and laying in a wet bit in bed is no good:p

Other than that when I did get the hang of it, sooooo much better than getting up to feed in a chair or to feed sitting up in bed:thumbsup:
