View Full Version : How to disinfect preloved baby stuff??
I have some second hand baby stuff I want to disinfect.
(toys, potty, rattles, sippy cup etc.)
What would be the best way to disinfect them so they are safe and clean for my bub?
The only thing I can think of is Milton. Would this be best?
Any other ideas??
i would use something like domestos/bleach for the potty and other plastic items .
could you use a baby bottle steriliser for the sippy cups (just a thought)
i know there's anti-bacterial soakers eg: napisan etc that you could use for clothes, so i dont see why u couldnt use them for the toys (obviously read the label first)

The potty'd be the easiest - the same as you'd clean your own toilet, and then sunshine for a few days
Sippy cup - dishwasher, then milton or equiv. By the time bubs is upto a sippy cup they'll have eaten cat food and crawled in your toilet - so it's not going to be of upper most concearn IYKWIM
Other toys - remove all visible dirt & grime with a damp cloth or soft toothbrush, wipe over well with a toilet wipe, or surface clean with weak bleach, soaking in milton for teething rings etc.
Followed up by a few days in the sun.
Child Care Centres often throw stuff in the washing machine with say Napisan, or put blocks and lego etc in a dishwasher (in washing bags LOL)
I always soak bathtoys in weak bleach, or vinegar frequently - especially if they hold water.
Fresh air, Sunshine, weak common bleach, bicarb and vinegar, and even Tea-tree oil kills off most household nasties

I would use a domestos type product or soak rattles or things that go in bubs mouth with milton.
I generally wash stuff (secondhand) with hot soapy water then soak and dry in the sun.
I dishwashered every thing that could be.
Napisaned or sterilised the rest.
Washed and sunlighted the clothes.
Scrubbed the pram.

I wipe all DD's toys over every now and then with a dettol and water mix I do this also with DD's potty (but I also use disinfectant and bleach on this too just depends what is close to hand) either way they kill the germies :D
I's be inclined to wash anything that is likely to go in bubs mouth with milton or such (like you would bottles and perhaps a rinse with boiling water to remove any residue of whatever you use to clean them)
