View Full Version : Daycare incidents/accidents
 My neighbour's daughter was hurt at daycare today, she twisted her ankle badly. It got me thinking, what's the worst injury your child has had at daycare? Bit of a random topic I know. :D

Bec had a deep bite mark - she's 8.5mths and the bub who bit her was the same age. They don't really understand the badness of it so I didn't react.
Hannah has just top of her toe gone as someone ran over her foot on a scooter - again I didn't react as Hananh ran out in front of the scooter (she admitted it too).
That's probably the worst though (touch wood) - other than that it is just scapes and scratches with Hannah.

:( My dd3 was running around in their garden play area (she was 20 months at the time) and she fell. The garden at that time was edged with concrete things that have since been removed. She smashed her mouth which pushed her two front teeth up a little and caused some damage to her palate too.
I was so furious, the stones were removed straight away and replaced with plastic type garden edging but my daughter had damage which now needs to be rechecked with xrays every year or so and possibly her second teeth may not come through as straight.
When I was working in a childcare centre I left early one day (hardly any kids so I wasn't needed) and as I was walking home and ambulance went past me towards the centre. When I arrived the next day I found out that not long after I left one of the preschoolers had fallen and broken his leg
He had been standing on something he shouldn't have and slipped off. There was a staff member standing right beside him when he slipped, he had also been told to get down but was being a cheeky 4yr old and didn't want to. He had his whole leg in plaster for about 8weeks, poor kid.
His parents were very understanding and didn't blame the centre at all. The child was back at the centre a week after this happened, his sisters were still attending too.
I know, not my child, but still, pretty horrible thing to have happen.

when I worked in childcare a little boy kept jumping off the swing and expecting me to catch him (he was 4) I told him twice to stop and then turned away and he jumped again . Of course I didnt catch him and he broke his leg and his tail bone. His mum was furious and threatened to sue. Luckily the creche yard had cameras and she was able to watch me explain very nicely and repeatedly to stop jumping.
Having said that my son fell off the play equipment at a pub that we were at for tea on mothers day this year. He broke both the bones in his arm and they thought he had a broken pelvis which turned out just to be bruised and swollen. We have no intentions of suing as it was just an accident . The upsetting thing is that the manager of the hotel rang the next day and gave us a rundown of how he had chatted to other kids on the playground and told me that my 7 year old was actually doing the wrong thing. I was really upset some people are so scared abotu being sued that they have forgotten how to be kind!

My son used to get quite bad bites from one child at his daycare..... one particular day he came home with a bite on his face. The little boy had come up and biten him on the face and nose. I was really angry because this child would bite my son everyday and the daycare ladies had to constanly keep an eye on this child as he as targeting logan for no reason. Eventually i think they had to ask him to leave as he was to high maintanance.
The other bad one was when he came home one day and showed me a big gash in his tounge. I asked all the ladies at dycare if they knew how he did it and no one seemed to have an idea. THe amount it would have bled i foun that very hard to belive but what can i do.

i've been thinking about this lately and am not sure where i stand yet. i go to cafe mumma in wilston (Qld) where there is a toy area for kids. and the first time i put DS in the play area i was watching him interacting with the other kids. and there was another kid who kept hogging all the toys not giving any away, and his mother had her back to him (probably on purpose) enjoying her coffee. finally my DS got a train and this kid tried to snatch it again. so like a woman possessed i jumped in, snatched it out of the kid's hands and said ' NO, he had that' pointing to my son. Now, i think i overreacted.....derrrrr, but i was more peeved about the mother not supervising her own child.
but now i think, we're so busy saying 'share , share....' to our kids and being seen to apologise for all their misdemeanours when really, they're just kids being kids. so now i let a bit of snatching go on between kids. do you think that's wrong???? i'm not talking about biting, just toy snatching really......
