My poor cat is flea infested (and i really mean infested). It seems like for months i have been combing him, vacuuming and treating him with frontline and all i am noticing is that the problem is getting worse and worse.
DH spoke to the vet about it and the vet told us to give him frontline every two weeks, but i am still not noticing any difference. Does anyone know how this product is supposed to work? I thought i was supposed to stop fleas from producing eggs, but when i come home i notice flea eggs flying on the lounge when the cat has been sitting all day.
The vet also gave us a tablet we could give the cat called capstar which kills the fleas on him within 1/2 hr of him taking the tablet. It is horrible to watch him once he has taken it as the fleas react like headlice would when treated. I am a very loving pet owner and i feel like the worst person in the world for having my animal in so much pain...
Any ideas what else i should be doing? The frontline really doesn't seem to do anything, have other people found the same? What other products would u recommend? I only gave him frontline again last night so when would i be able to try something new?
TIA

frontline is cr@p. It used to be brilliant til they changed the formula jsut over a year ago. I would put it on my cats and three days later they would still be as bad if not worse its heartbreaking I hate seeing them scratch.
We use any bayer product now. Usually Advocate or Advantage (which ever one does the most intestinal worms)
I would use a Bayer product, we have three cats and 2 dogs and I will never buy frontline again
I would also flea bomb your house too. Front line use to be a very good product but as Megaminz said they changed the formula and it no longer works. Agree with Advantage or Advocate.
Yup..I used frontline on our indoor only cat and she ended up with fleas..it did NOTHING  I switched to Revolution and she's been flea free ever since. I also sprayed the house and washed all her bedding

thanks girls i thought i was going insane!
I'll have to go out and buy something else, i had been planning on it but DH was trying to help out and went and bought more of the stuff (i don't really get it cause if it aint working why keep trying!)
I have organised for a pest inspector to come out and treat the place next week and a follow up in late jan... it's not really money i wanted to spend, but things have gotten beyond a joke and i didnt want to risk spending almost as much on flea bombs to find out they didnt work and having to call the inspector in anyway... so :fingerscrossed: i wont be embarassed about the flea situation come our christmas party and that my little cat starts looking and feeling better... Fleas are a NIGHTMARE!
Yep, I was using frontline on my dog, it was doing NOTHING so I rang the company and basically had a hissy fit, they sent me about $100 of free product, and said do it every 2 weeks, and I used capstar as well, so when I used up all the free stuff, I changed to advantage, and it does seem to be working, but i still use it in conjunction with capstar, and I'm going to be bombing the house too...
I think it is a PATICULARLY bad year for fleas...

I used to love frontline but have heard alot of bad things recently so ahve changed to advantage, I dont have a flea problem but I would try a different product and do it once a fortnight for the first month, wash all the bedding and flea bombs do work if you sue the right amount for the size of the house, good luck, nothing worse than fleas i hate them

i hate bombs...lol... which is why ive tried to justify the pest inspector... DH and I had used cockroach ones three times at the last place we lived (the cockies were there when we moved in) it cost a fortune and i spent an entire christmas day having to wash all my plates (my fault for deciding to bomb the house while we went to chrissy lunch...lmao) in the end we needed a pest guy as they just wouldn't die!
Also i'm ttc so i wasnt sure how safe the bombs would be, where as the chemicals the pest guy uses i've been told are safe

yeah when you treat your cat with a product such as frontline, you also have to treat their environment, bedding, your lounges, the floors etc....
No point doing the cat constantly and not treating the house, as they will just continue to breed in the house, floor bedding etc...
As for Frontline, it's the cheapest on the market from what I've found and I've found with this stuff you do pay for what you get..
We buy Advantix as it also treats for ticks, and worms...but that is for our dogs....but I'm sure you could get one similar for the cat..Saves trying to give them paste which they probably ont like for worms too...
My sister uses frontline though, and she treats their bedding at the same time, and it works for them, BUT the day they are set for a new treatment there are fleas already on them....
Dont feel bad, at least you are trying...and seeking help..... Get the pest guys out for sure, dont bother trying to do it yourself.... (sometimes work out just as expensive)
