View Full Version : Discussing TTC! Please Help!
Hi there. I was wondering if someone could please help i need some info!
Ok bit of background info...My name is Jasmine, i just got married to David. I turned 19 in January and my hubby will be 26 in October. We have bought our own house and hubby has a good job. We have been together for over a couple of years now and married for a couple of months :D
I have been browsing the last few days and thought i may as well become a member.
At the moment hubby and i are discussing trying to conceive. I dont really know much about that sorta stuff though lol :o
So, what i want to know is...
When during the month am i most likely to conceive? Is it straight after my period, before?
Should i see a doctor before Trying to conceive or is it not necessary?
And any other info you can think of!
I know im young to be married and thinking of babies but hubby and i feel ready for this. We are still discussing so may not even start trying till later this year or early next year.
Thanks so much for your help! :)

Hi jasmine and welcome to bubhub,I was 19 when i got married first time around so i don't think that you are silly for doing it. As for TTC the "average" woman is said to ovulate around 14 days after their last AF (period) but that can vary and is based on a 28 day cycle. I myself don't think that there is a need to go to your gp till after you have concieved or if you have been trying for a while with no success but as i said thats my opinion it would do no harm if you went. When i started to have my kids i never new anything about temps and cm(cervical mucous) or when the best time to concieve was,i just thought that you had sex and got pregnant.. and it did work out that way cause i had my first 3 quite easily. Once again welcome to bubhub you will find lots of support on here.

Are you a regular cycle? if so it will be alot easier to pin point ovulation unless your prepared to just go hell for leather every second night. For the most part you ovulate 13-16 before you get your period, so if you have a 28 day cycle you will ovulate on day 14 there are exceptions to this rule some people are shorter or longer You can also look at cervical mucus it becomes like egg white consistancy at time of ovulation and getting some ovulation predictor kits can tell you when you'll ovulate 24-48 hours ahead my advise to you is if you are really keen to get going just get on a multi or folic acid tablet and chart your cycle for a few months you will soon see when you ovulate and this is good because if it dosn't happen for a while you can take it to your doctor and they can look at whats been going on, Fertility friend is an on line charting site you can use to help track ovulation:fingerscrossed: this helped:)
Thanks heaps girls! :)
Sweetpea when you say you ovulate about 14 days after your period, do you mean 14 days after the first day of your period or 14 days after the last day of my period?
Eg. I had my last period from about the 9th-13th may, when would i most likely get pregnant.
We are also discussing what month would be best to have the baby in. Do you think its better to be heavily preg in summer or winter?
I went to the doctor three months ago to have my implanon removed, and she did some blood tests to check if I was rubella immune and to check my blood type. I think if you're a negative blood type and your partner is positive, it may affect the pregnancy. Nothing major, but something that they would have to keep an eye on after conception. She also checked my iron levels I think.
I also asked about vitamins, and she recommended folate for three months before conception and avoiding vitamin A.
Of course, many a million children have been successfully conceived and delivered without any of this...
Good luck!

The average cycle is 28 days but I don't know any average people! The first half of a cycle can vary widely, 10-20 days. This refers to the time between day 1 of your period and the day you ovulate.
The time between when you ovulate and the first day of your next cycle will be 14 days. S othe variation occurs in the first half of your cycle. If you are willing to observe your cycle for a few months you will be able to backtrack from the start of every period to see if you were right in knowing what day you ovulate. God, I must be confusing you here!
Definately take folate for 3 months before trying to concieve and it may be worth having your rubella immunity checked by your Gp also. One of the best books I have about conception is The Natural Way To Better Babies. It is written by two Sydney naturopaths called Francesca Naish and Janette Roberts. Definately worth it if you can get a copy.
I have had babies in September, October and December. The winter pregnancies were a bit easier but a summer baby is great-singlets and nappies most of the time-no need for bundling up the bub every time you leave the house.
All the best.:D

if you go on to yahoo.. and type in ovulation calendar and put in the date of ur last period it will do it all for u and tell u when ur most fertile days of the month are... the only thing i found after years of being with my ex.. is that it was more of a mind thing.. like sometimes i felt by doing that i got way to obsessed and nothing seemed to happen... i think maybe the best way is just to let it happen when the time is right that is what ended up happening for us.. dont think about getting pregnant or trying or fertile days or when your ovulating... just enjoy a healhty relationship together.. and when the little bub is meant to be it will happen and u will get a nice suprise!!

Hi Jasmine! Welcome to Bub Hub.:hugs:
I found this calendar REALLY helpfull when i started TTC. Because of it i fell pregnant in the first month of trying. Its VERY straight forward. Basically just tells you when to get "busy" and when you can start pee-ing on sticks.

I also advise taking Folate.... if you are thinking about babies now it wouldnt hurt to start taking them... even if you dont start ttc till the end of the year. Also there is a good pregnancy vitamin thats called Elevit and thats basically got everything in it. You can take that before you fall pregnant, during your pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding. It really helped me with my morning sickness. Elevit is more expensive though.. costs about $30 for 30 tablets (well it did when i was pregnant) and folate was about $10 for 200 tablets. I do recommend you take one of them as it helps prevent Spina Bifida (s/p).
Good Luck!! :fingerscrossed:
