Well, our day started nice and early, waking up at 5am (that was Brad)… I had already been awake since 3am with excitement!!) to get ready to go to the hospital, as I was booked in for a 6:30am induction due to GD. We got ready and Mum came over at 6, then we all left.
When we arrived, we were shown to our birthing room and I got changed into my nighty while the midwife got us breakfast. We set up our iPod and speakers and had our breakfast while Brad played cards, hehehe…
After breakfast was finished, the midwife hooked me up to the CTG to monitor bub, then put the canular in my wrist for the strep B antibiotics and syntocin.
It was then change-over time for the midwives, and our new midwife Chris came in…. he introduced himself and we had a talk about what I wanted in terms of drugs etc, and breastfeeding…He then did an internal examination which showed I was still only 1cm dilated. Chris and another midwife then broke my water, such a weird feeling, haha - felt like I was peeing myself!! I was then hooked up to the syntocin drip and the wait began!!! But felt weird that my water was leaking so I went to have a shower; it was a funny feeling as on the way to the shower I kept leaking water on the floor… J
The contractions started coming after a while, Chris would come back in every now and then to check on the CTG monitoring and would turn up the syntocin drip.
At about 11ish the contractions started getting a bit painful, so I decided to have another shower… as I was standing in the shower having a contraction, I started getting that same nauseating feeling I’d had throughout the pregnancy… I then started being sick, so I got out and Chris brought me a spew bag… I decided to go back to bed as the contractions were getting worse, as Chris had turned up the drip again…. Ouch!!
Lunchtime came around and the contractions were very painful, Chris was checking the CTG and everything was fine, he then let me know they’d be doing another internal examination at 2:00 pm, which to me seemed soooooooo far away!! I was thinking, oh cr*p can’t you do it any earlier? Hehehe! I was still being sick with every contraction that came, so Chris then offered me a maxalon shot in my thigh to which I quickly agreed to!! He gave me the shot and then brought me in some food to eat, but as soon as I took the lid off the plate I felt sick, there was pasta, peas, mash & pumpkin… I had a couple of mouthfuls of the pasta but couldn’t eat anymore.
After a while I was hoping the maxalon would be kicking in soon as it was hard having contractions and being sick at the same time, but it never did work. Chris offered me the gas and I took it but didn’t like it as I felt like I was too spaced out and I didn’t feel like it was working as the pain was still really bad.
Eventually it got to 1:30 pm and I was in a lot of pain and swearing at every contraction… the smile had gone from my face, (hehehe) Chris then came in with the head midwife and they offered me an epidural or pethidine and explained all the side effects, etc. It’s so amazing that I actually said yes to an epidural, as I’m really scared of them (I think it was more a pain decision), Chris said I’d probably be about 3-4 cms dilated and they’d get the anesthetist to come and give me the epidural. So he did an internal and I was 7 cms dilated!! He then explained I would be too late to have an epidural as it would take some time for the anesthetist to come down, and that I’d probably still be numb when I needed to push bub out (in a way I think he was trying to talk me out of it, as he knew I didn’t want one before). He then offered me a pethidine shot, I was worried about having one as it goes through to bub, and at the same time he was explaining if the contractions intensified more that I decided to go with the pethidine shot. They then gave me the pethidine shot and we waited for it to kick in, I don’t really think it did much, but I was really tired and too distracted with the pain to know much of what was going on around me.
The contractions then got to the point where I felt like I was doing a poo and I told Chris that I felt like I needed to go to the toilet, so he checked me out and let me know it was time to push.
Another midwife Lily came in to help Chris out, they then got everything ready for the birth and hooked me up to the CTG machine again. With every contraction that came, I would put my feet on Brad’s & Chris’ waists and push. Lily and Chris were guiding me through the pushing and let me know that I needed to keep pushing, and not to let go of the push in between the pushing. So I pushed and pushed and eventually they let me know that they could see some hair coming through but I needed to push a little harder as bub was getting tired and so was I. So I thought to myself “Ok Gilda, you know you’re going to tear and its going to hurt lots but it’s going to be over very soon… just do it girl!!” And then I pushed and pushed for my life and eventually my little girl’s head was out…. wow…. now I just had to get her body out!!! Hehehe! So I kept pushing and pushing, and Chris was trying to help her out, next thing I knew my little girl Myah Estelle Maria was being placed on my chest…. she was beautiful!! I couldn’t believe it… I said to Brad, “Baby, we made a little princess, she’s beautiful!!” Brad then cut Myah’s cord, then she was taken over to get cleaned up, they also wanted to check her out as she was a bit “floppy” from the pethadine so the pediatrician came in and she was fine. It was time to deliver the placenta now, Chris pretty much pulled it out and I didn’t need to push, it came out and they checked it out and all was good. They then brought in a doctor to check me out as I had torn and needed stitches. She checked me out and gave me internal stitches which I didn’t even feel as I was still so excited about my little girl finally being here!!
It was now time for Chris to go home as he was already in overtime, we said our thanks for all the help etc, and he went and Lily took over.
Myah had been all cleaned up and they brought her back over for some more cuddles… I couldn’t believe it, I was a mummy and my little princess was finally here!! Lily then asked me if I was going to breastfeed Myah and I said “yep!!!” So she showed me how to get Myah to latch on, and straight away she latched on with no trouble and started sucking!! Wow, I didn’t think it’d be that easy… Hehehe once she was done I needed to go and have a shower, so Brad took Myah and I went in for a shower.
Once I was all showered up, I went back inside and we had some more cuddles with our princess. Our family then came to visit and meet our little girl, then Lily got a bath ready for Myah, she put her in and she let out a massive scream!!! Hehehe, after her big scream she relaxed and felt comfy as it was just like in mum’s tummy… hehehe, she was then weighed and measured.. and weighed 4.090kgs and measured 54cms!! We then dressed her in her first outfit and everyone left. Brad and I got to spend some time alone with her for a couple of hours before they transferred us to the maternity ward. It was then time for Brad to go so he said goodbye to us and went home. I then fed Myah and we went to sleep… ready to continue on with our lives together!!!
:flowerz: Love you baby girl!! :flowerz:
