Hi gummibear

:hugs: it can be really disheartening to e trying for so long and not be getting anywhere... It's so exciting at first and then it can feel a little hopeless when AF just keeps on arriving.

As for should you be worried, well i guess it always useful to start with the basics and ask do u know about ovulation and the fertile period of ur cycle?

And the next questions are do u get ur period? I've seen quite a few girls come on here asking why they aren't pregnant but not realising that the fact they havent had a period in over six months means its almost impossible.

Normally it would be quite normal for someone who had been trying for 12 months to talk to their GP about why they havent fallen pregnant. In normal healthy couples, there is only a 20% chance of falling pregnant each cycle, so statistically that still leaves a small percentage at the end of 12 months that have jsut been 'unlucky'. I see on ur profile ur 20... I think some GP's may just say 'go away ur only young!' but i think thats a pretty bad response and if they do go and find another one who will take ur concerns seriously.

I guess if u tell us a little more about what ur ttc journey as been like so far, people may be able to better respond to ur question and point u in the correct direction.

:hugs: once again... and here is some baby dust for you :babydust2:

Gummi i completely feel you i am 20 also and have been ttc for a year my prob is i have pcos so need help ovulating.
Go to your gp and tell him you want a referral dont ask tell after ttc for a year with no luck you need to see a fertility specialist who will run tests on you both to see if there are any issues that may be stopping you from conceiving. Do you chart at all? Good luck and i hope you get your bfp soon, come join us on the rollercoaster 12 months plus

Gummi you need a new GP i am the same age as you and have been receiving help for some time now. Find a new Gp and demand a referral they have to give you one who cares about the age you've been ttc for a year with no luck and anyone ttc for a year plus is entitled to see a fertility specialist. I hope you find a good GP soon maybe see if you can get into a female one. You need to get a referral soon though as they can have a large waiting list. Good luck by the way what month in 88 is your b'day it's a great year ;)

ah i'm a feb girl. No you can go public i don't have private health so we're public that's why the waiting list can be a long one, just call at least once a week to check for cancellations and you may get in earlier i got in 4 months earlier.
It can be pricey my first visit was $120 i got back 90 with medicare every visit after is $60 and i get back 30 odd. We were bulk billed for DP's SA so not sure what that would cost, all my blood work was bulk billed too. The ultrasounds cost me $120 and i get back just under 90 the fertility meds i'm on (clomid) normally cost 30 odd but are on the pbs so i get them for $4 your dr when you see him/her will want to run a number of tests to check for hormone imbalances and what not, they may want to do a Laparoscopy which you can go public not sure on the waiting list time, private they are roughly $700-800 depending on your dr. I am having a procedure done in 9 days via public and i only had a 1 month wait.
It can be really daunting especially if you need assistance but having a specialist and getting the tests done is a step in the right direction.

oh my goodness girls i just realised my little baby sis is 88 as well... if she was on these threads i'd be sending her away and giving her a talking to, but i guess we are all different

a yr is a yr gummi, and considering u r 20 u should be even more likely to fall pregnant than a 30 yr old so def do see another GP. A GP can send u off for a number of basic tests such as blood tests to check ur hormone levels, ur partner for a semen analysis etc and he should be able to ask them to bulk bill u. It is easier to have these tests done before seeing a specialist as at least then u can save money on having an appt were he will send u off for tests and then having to pay again to find out the results.

I hope u didnt take offence to my basic questions, i figure its all best to start with the basics ;)

PS. health cover probably wouldn't cover any costs for appts with specialists, although u will generally get about half the fee back from medicare. Health cover would be useful if u had to have a hospital visit, otherwise u would have to be on a waiting list or pay which would be costly. If u are considering health insurance, check how long their waiting periods are for pre-existing conditions... im guessing (although dont actually know) that if u havent been diagnosed with something now then u technically dont have a pre-existing medica condition, but if u decided to join once u found out then waiting periods would apply (?)

and last questions (sorry) RN asked before but i think u may have missed it, do u chart ur cycle? This kind of information is really useful when talking to doctors (and it shows u r serious about ttc)

Hiya

Don't fee bad about worrying! Better to find out what's really going on and as much info as you can! I found the book Natural way to better babies helpful re. cycles, charting etc.

I was TTC 9 months and decided that I would investigate further. My GP was great and she said at 34 you really don't have oodles of time to just "see what happens."

Not that I am predicting gloom but after lots of tests, turns out my tubes were blocked! So i was able to act - have them removed and now proceed to IVF. I could have been messing around a lot longer to no avail!

Just go with how you feel and don't be afraid to ask questions an worry a little!

We all do!:flowerz:
