Hi
We are coming over to Australia for a couple of months from the UK so are looking to buy a new buggy or similar for our 1 yr old. We are ideally looking for something lightweight with an umbrella fold but that will also be good for the shops etc. However, where we really need some help is that we also want to use it on different terrains ie the beach .
Also what do you suggest ref sun protection for the buggy - parasols; shade-a-babe, canopy etc?
Any ideas, advice recommendations very much appreciated :).
Many thanks, Nina

We have a 3-wheel jogger type stroller by Valco, which is great on all terrain except sand where it becomes almost impossible. Also a lot of jogger strollers are too wide for a lot of shops. We use a sling for the beach, and now a backpack carrier which dd loves being in. The backpack harness has a wide padded belt around my hips so it's not too much strain on my back.
For sun shade we use a full shade cloth canopy on the stroller rather than an umbrella. I couldn't be bothered fussing around adjusting an umbrella every time we turned a corner.
Most major cities have 2nd hand baby shops, and also companies that rent out larger gear, so you may not have to buy new.
I have an urban mountain buggy and live in a small seaside village complete with dirt rd and big sand dunes. this 3 wheeler goes everywhere- and i mean every where. through soft sand its a breeze and if you drag it behind you it will go even further. best investment i made. it has a uv/sun protector which also cuts out sea breezes. it is light weight and collapses flat, easy to manouver (sp??) needing only one hand at the shops with a small turning circle. great!!

I also use a Urban Mountain Buggy (NZ make) and agree that with 'Mum of Jack' that these prams do go anywhere. I live in a coastal town and regularly take it onto the breach, and as it is aluminimum it wont rust. It is also very easy to get around in shops with.
On the sun issue, definately go with a complete sunshade cover, as the Ozzie sun is extremely unforgiving on any skin. Remember the sunscreen, we even use it during winter!
Happy travelling.
