hey all
over the weekend, DS started pulling himself up on all the furniture. he stands up whenever he can, and for a really long time. but he's not quite seven months yet, and i'm worried this could damage his hips or joints. :(
should i be stopping him from doing this??? he gets quite peeved when i sit him down, and just goes back to standing up. he even pulls himself up my leg if i stand still long enough.
and is there anything i can do for him to stop him from falling down?? he banged his nose on the couch corner and got a blood nose on saturday (DP was looking after him as i had to work) :crying:

I wouldn't worry about it, babies know when they are ready to stand etc. Jacob was cruising furniture at 6mths 2 days, he is 8.5yrs old now and is fine.
My Jacob was standing at 6 months also, and is very confidently cruising furniture! He is now 8 months, and the CHN has never said anything about his hips!

there isn't much you can do for falls unfortuantely.
as for teh standing my little dd was standing before she could crawl. we thought she wz actually going to walk first. she was doing this at about 3 and 1/2 months (and for long periods - 15 minutes at a time) she has been walking since 8 1/2 months. i wouldn't worry. just let them go ast their own pace. they wouldn't do it if it was hurting them.
my grandfather keeps saying it isn't good for beth to be walking at 9 months when he saw her on mothers day. i can't stop her. she just does what she pleases and that is walking more than crawling at the moment.

My dd crawled at 6mths and pulled herself up on furniture at the same age.
She walked by herself at 9mths. Her legs are fine.
I think some babys are just a little more determined than others and are alot happier on their feet.
She is now nearly 13mths and runs so fast and climbs everything in site. Very active.
So get ready to put your running shoes on and enjoy your bub.
A friend said the same to me about the hips when she saw EJ standing supported when she dropped in a while ago. My CHN has never said anything like that so I dont think it does any harm. In fact if i remeber rightly a Q in the 6-8 month development check (in the baby health book) is if they stand supported. Under Gross Motor Development - Held Standing,Bounces with pleasure

Yes, it's completely an old-wives tale. Claire could bear weight on her legs pretty much from birth. At around 2 or 3 months old, I'd stand her up on my lap & my grandma was horrified! I'd never heard anything about it, but I asked several people including our GP & CHN & they all confirmed that it is definitely an old-wives tale.
