Hey people. thought you might be interested. :)

Cabbies face $1,000 fine for refusing commissioner's fare (http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200605/s1643666.htm)

Authorities say two Perth taxi drivers who refused to pick up the national Disability Discrimination Commissioner could face hefty fines.

Graeme Innes says drivers, on two separate occasions, refused to carry him and his guide dog during his current visit to Perth.

He has made a formal complaint to the Department of Planning and Infrastructure.

The Department's Peter Ryan says it was unacceptable behaviour on the part of the drivers and, following an investigation, they could be fined up to $1,000 each.

"These issues are specific components of the training of taxi drivers," he said.

"There is a disability element to the training that taxi drivers undergo, so that makes this matter particularly disappointing."

That's disgusting!

Glad it was a man with connections they refused - can you imagine if it was some poor little old blind lady - what would she do?!?

Poetic justice can be so delicious!

That is terrible. My husband drives a maxi taxi so a large percentage of his passengers are people with disabilities. He definitely had training to learn how to assist these people but I am unsure if all cabbies are trained to work with disabilities? I'll ask him when he gets home.

Training or no training, it is certainly nasty and unprofessional.
