View Full Version : How long off contraception til period
Just wondering how long for you guys did it take coming off contraception until you got your period?
I came off the pill 5weeks ago (after being on it straight for 5years) and no AF is in sight. I am not preggers as a test and blood test both negative.
Just curious to know if I need to have a period first before my body can ovulate properly again and can conceive.
Hi Arty
Babe I'm in the same boat as you been off the pill since late October and havent had a AF yet I'm on CD40 so frustrating I know.
Unfortunatley everyone is different, I have really really light periods so sometimes I can miss them or just have spotting Im off to the Dr tomorrow to see if anything can bring it on. In the meantime make sure you are taking B supplements and folate tablets as the pill strips your body of a lot of nutrients required to help conceiving and your basic fertility. Also you may look at a supplement which is in the form of an iv drip, something you may not know is the pill actually releases alot of copper into your body which is a cause of post-natal depression, something you deffinatley want to rid your body of.
Good Luck Hun, patience and positivity is the key I think x:babydust2:

I had a period 2 weeks after coming off, and then another exactly 4 weeks later. But I think I was one of the lucky ones.
Goodluck, you could still be ovulating so keep that in mind if your ttc!

I waited until I got my period on the pill as per my usual cycle and then just didn't take the pill anymore. I was lucky and my period came back on the regular 28 day cycle. I had been on it for 10 years.
I had a friend come off the pill halfway through a cycle though and I think she said it took just over 2 months for her to finally get it.
:fingerscrossed: it comes soon though. I think it's a matter of waiting it out :hair:

I waited until AF visited and then I stopped taking the pill after just over 8 years.
I haven't had AF come back yet and I'm not pregnant either.
Do I count my CD days from the first day AF came, or from the first day after AF came?
I hope someone can shed some light and I'm waiting for AF too so we can get something happening here!!!:D
Hello, after being on the pill for 2 years it took nearly three months to get a period and six months to get pregnant. Good luck :)

My Doctor said not to come back to her UNLESS I didn't have my 1st period after the pill, 3 months later.
I think I don't have long to go and will see what happens by January (I think)...
It's funny though. Even though I have had 2 negative HPT results, I can't drink Coke Zero anymore because it's too metallic tasting, my boobs are bigger (I reckon!), I haven't been as tired, and I've been queesy at night after eating but not during the day.
Maybe I'm just getting back to being off the pill perhaps???
Can anyone help me though?
AF came on Oct 22 and after that cycle I haven't had AF come back. So how many days would I say my CD is at now???
Thanks!

I'd say you're on CD46.
I would keep BD'ing regularly though, because I had bloods done this week and even though I am on CD44 with no period, my hormone levels suggest that I did in fact ovulate by CD40. though I had kind of given up by then. So I can expect that my period will not be any later than CD55 if I'm not UTD.
Good luck.

Thank you so much for your post. :) It gives me some reassurance that things may still happen before Chrissy!
We keep BDing... that just happens... as who knows?!
I haven't done any ovulation checks, and I have only tested when I was due for AF and the 3 of those came back negative.
Maybe I should do some more HPTs!
Good luck to you! I hope you get a :bfp: come CD55!
Well Ladies Ive answered my own question and I'm happy I didn't have to wait long (who knew that one could be happy to see AF come as before we were TTC I liked to skip my period and have it every two months because it comes round so often. I wonder if that influenced my delay.)
Anywaz, 1 1/2 late to estimated arrival time I have my period. Now I hope it hurries and finishes so we can do this  and this  and get this :bfp:
I hope I wont be disappointed again when AF comes next month. As I thought I ovulated and did the deed around that time.
