View Full Version : Help ... any ideas for 15 week old
Hi,
I am a bit confused as to what to do, my little DS has been sick recently with high fevers and suffering from a virus. Prior to him being sick he was feeding 4 hourly during the day, would have a feed at 6.30pm and bed by 7pm and I would dream feed him at 10.30pm and he would sleep through till 5am.
However, now it is all changed - sometimes during the day he feeds 3 hourly sometimes 4 hourly and overnight is an absolute mess - feeds anywhere between 5.30 - 6.30 and is in bed straight after and wakes for a feed at 10.30pm and absolutely screams and kicks and arches his back but only takes about 80mls - this happens again at 3.30am with him screaming ect.
He doesn't drink all that much for his weight, he weighs 7.2kg and is drinking about 700mls per day - I have tried to get him to drink more with no success.
What has happened? The night feeding is really starting to stress me out - what have I done or haven't done or should I be doing ?

have u thought of calling your CHN???
what type of virus does your bubba have?
if a baby has a blocked nose they find it hard and tiring to feed.
does he have a sore throat??? he could not be drinking as much due to the discomfort
I think like when we are sick we dont eat big meals... and sounds like your bubba is doing to same
maybe offer him smaller more frequent feeds during the day may make him less tired... sometimes when babies have a full stomach it makes it harder for them to breath when they are sick... and u may notice that when your baby has a fever that he breaths faster and his heart is also faster!! so they get tired quick.
7.2 kg sounds like a good weight for a 15 week old isnt that the 75th percentile??? but u wanna make sure he is not loosing weight... is he having 6 or more wet nappies a day???
alot of babies our age tend to start night waking again... mum bubba is doing this and alot of other mums are chating about their bubbas doing the same.... its frustrating but I think they need the extra energy when they are sick...
here is a helpful website from where I used to work (Im a stay at home mum)

:hugs::hugs::hugs: I really can't suggest anything -please don't think it's something you've done or haven't done - thinking like that will definately stress you out - try talking to your CHN or ring a parenting hotline - the main thing is that he is eating - my DS doesn't eat what they say should be eaten for his age..it could be jsut the illness that has put him out of his normal routine.
I sincerely hope that things get back to normal for you very soon...:hugs:
Hey there, do not blame yourself, babies quite often change their routine..My bub is 16 weeks and i find she does the same thing when her teeth are bothering her.. Could this be the same? I have to change the bottle i use due to the teat, she has different types, and one she really has to suck to get her milk but when her teeth are bothering her she refuses it and carries on, with the same symptons you are talking about. She also normally sleeps 10-14 hours at night but at the moment she is waking a couple of times really upset, it takes the bonjela and to then give her back her dummy and she goes back to sleep ( just giving dummy doesnt work she refuses to suck it), she has the last 2 nights also decided she wants an extra bottle between 3:30 and 5:50 am eeeekkkk. I am going crazy with lack of sleep, i got so used to it... I hope you work it out soon and get some more sleep, i prey my bub doesnt keep doing it...

hey just wondering if our advice was helpful????
hope your little bubba on the mend?????
Thanks everyone.
He seems to be slowly getting back to himself especially at night. Have gone back to 3.5 hour feeds and he takes 120mls. He is also sleeping through till 4am in the morning again, so hopefully in a few weeks he will be back to 5am.
Thanks everyone for your advice and support, it's funny how we always blame ourselves first for things that go wrong, but never give ourselves credit for the things that go right.
Thanks again
