I just did an OPK and got a +ve result. I am on CD 10. Now what? DH is OS on business so no chance of BD but just wondering if I need to do another OPK over the next few days? Or just the fact that I got a +ve today, will that be enough to work out LP? Or should I do another OPK next month around CD10 again and then BD like rabbits???:laughing:

Hi Tasma,

Are you using the digital ones or the standard ones with the two lines? I think it would help to do another one tomorrow just to be sure that today is your peak LH surge day. The instructions say that you don't need to and I have never actually got more than 1 positive in a cycle anyway but I say do it to check. If it's positive today then you should ovulate within the next 12-48 hours so you could ovulate today or tomorrow or even the following day (less likely though).

I can sympathise as my DH goes O/S for work all the time. It's so frustrating to see that egg go to waste!!!
:hair:

I'd do more OPK's next month as you could ovulate earlier or later but if you don't want to, BDing like rabbits around that time should do the job!

Thanks Elle, I'm just using the standard OPKs with the 2 lines. I have no idea about them actually, my friend gave them to me!! I'll do another tomorrow as the line this morning wasn't FMU and was quite faint but I put that down to the not being FMU thing. I'll see how I go tomorrow.

Tasma, you shouldnt do OPK's with FMU as it can give an incorrect result.... unlike HPT's that you should do with FMU OPK's work better mid morning onwards....

When doing OPK's around your ovulation time its best if you can to test atleast twice a day. once say mid/late morning and another mid/late afternoon. Reason I say that is its common to miss your surge with only testing once a day. For example, I have had a negative (faint line) opk in the morning, and then by dinner time its been a full dark positive, and then the next morning its been light again so its really easy to pinpoint exactly when your LH surge is by testing 2-3 times a day - thats why a lot of us use EBAY cheapies as it wont cost you an arm and a leg then lol....

Re the result, you know that a positive is only when the test line is as dark, or darker than the control line? A faint line or a line not as dark is still classified as a negative and you should keep testing. After doing it for a month or two you will get to know and see the different shades of the line. I find it best to stick them all on a peice of paper one after the other and then you can try and pinpoint exactly when the surge was. Some women always give a very light 2nd line on the OPK's even when they are not ovulating.

Goodluck!

A faint line can always be present as you always have the hormone in your system - It's when the test line is as dark as the control line that you will ovulate in the next 48hours :)

ok so I just checked the first one from this morning (around 9am) and both lines are really dark. I did another one and both lines are faint

should I do another one in a bit?

If the one you did this morning was dark and now its light, sounds like you had had your surge  so i would say you ovulating

This is my understanding too... my last OPK's even said that 2pm is the best time to test, but from 10am to 8pm should be your range...so, going by the times of your posts I'd say that your first one may not be a reliable test...and you may not have O'd yet...unless you are having other O symptoms and know you usually O around CD 10:detective: but it could still be too early...so I'd keep testing in the afternoons and evenings once you think you are very close to O.

Ok so at 9am this morning it looked very dark for both lines. At about 1pm it looked faint for both lines but they were as dark as eachother. Another one at 7pm was darker than the 9am one  This is the first month of using OPKs and I'm already over it :hair:

Tasma, I'd be inclined to think that the one from yesterday morning is null and void given it was FMU....

If you got a darker one last night, then I would test again today and if its gone lighter today then its possible your surge was last night/early this morning and today is probably ovulation day.

Another thing... in my case the test line never got darker than the control line, as soon as there was a line I started Bding. That might not be the same as everyone though.

Good luck
