For those in Adelaide and have had babies at Burnside, you're probably aware of the Hyatt Regency 2 night stay offer....

I'm just interested to know what good/bad things people who have taken up this offer have found from going there...

obviously provided all things are ok health-wise, obviously there's a midwife there to take care of us but i'm interested in the other bits and pieces like........is the food there better? is parking for visitors a hassle? are the rooms nicer? does the hospital have a facility that the hotel doesn't??

Just interested as i'd love to stay there for a night or 2 but don't want to get there and then regret it IYKWIM!

Hi there :)

I am due next month....when are you due?

I had DD at Burnside nearly 2 years ago. The Hyatt option wasnt available then. TBH I am so glad I spent the entire time at Burnside Hospital as a first time mum I really enjoyed having lots of midwives available to help me learn the basics of looking after bubs, feeding etc. I also enjoyed the facilities as well :)

This time around - I dont think I will take up the option even if they offer it to me. I really like the hospital environment that Burnside has to offer - its a like a hotel in a way as well. With the Hyatt option there is no free parking for visitors - however I think thats the point to give new parents some time to themselves before they go home.

The food at Burnside was wonderful and there was heaps! Because i had a vaginal birth I was able to have a king size bed - so DH slept in the bed with me. I also liked the little courtyard that was attached to the room - It was nice to sit outside - although when it hit 40C in January 2006 - it wasnt pleasant! We had the 'Thomas' room which was the biggest room at the hospital as we were lucky alot of patients went home that morning...

January is also a busy time at the hospital so I suppose - if its too full - maybe then we might consider going to the Hyatt - but after our stay last time - I am hoping to stay at the hospital...

Sorry for raving on!

I will be interested to hear from anyone that has stayed at the Hyatt!

I just received a letter in the post today from them telling me about this option.

I haven't done this option and so far I don't know anyone who has.

As far as I can work out, the only real difference is that there isn't a nursery at the Hyatt like there is at the hospital.

I have also noticed is that one of the major pros of going to the Hyatt is that they have sleeping arrangements for your DP and an extra child. So if it is your second child you don't have to be separated too long from your first child.

I also would love to hear from someone who has actually taken this option. I am in two minds about it.

gosh didn't know they even had king sized beds at burnside! i hope i get the 'thomas' room :yelclap:

this will be our 2nd baby (due 9th Feb - and i hear we're going to have a hotter than average Feb ) so i'm only considering because its our 2nd..if it was our 1st i'd prefer to be at the hospital.

the only real benefit i can see is that if we stay at the hyatt our 17mth old DD would be able to stay with us as well which might help with her adjusting to the whole idea of her having a little brother/sister! but then again, not so sure she'd sleep all that well in a strange place. The other thing is its probalby the only chance i'll ever get to stay at the hyatt  so for that reason i'm considering!

i like being around other people so i might end up just staying at the hospital in the end......easy/free carparking for visitors, close to home....

thanks for all the thoughts/experiences so far though!

I didn't stay at the Hyatt but took the hotel stay option when I had Jacob and I'm so very glad I did!
Not only was the room lovely, but it was so quiet (not the hustle/bustle of a hospital ward), my family/friends could visit at any time, the room service meals were AMAZING (thank God for 'Degas' is all I can say lol), the midwives were attentive without being 'in your face'...and also, because they only had 2 or 3 patients to look after they could spend one on one time with me while I was getting the hang of breastfeeding.
I was able to tell housekeeping what time I wanted my room tidied and the bed made so at that time I would take Jacob into the midwive's room and then go down to the cafe, have a cuppa and read the paper!!!
It is perfect for some lovely Mumma and bubba time before we headed home to the hustle and bustle of home life. Papaduke didn't stay with us as we had the two other 'Dukes' at home but it was a really great opportunity for Jacob and I to have some lovely time alone getting to know one another.
I thoroughly recommend it...
oh, and the only thing you'll miss out on being in the hotel instead of hospital is golden staff lol. :p

ETA...just wanted to add that every night I was in the hotel the midwives would take Jacob during the night, call my room (by phone) when he woke, brought him in for a feed and then I'd call her when he was asleep. It's such a more restful night's sleep when you're not waking every time you hear a gurgle etc. They had a nursery style room set up in the midwive's suite.

Girls if any of you do use the Hyatt option please come back and share your thoughts

I'm due to go into Burnside in May/June to have my bubs and I'm worried it's going to be really busy, so the Hyatt option might be good :)
