I read somewhere yesterday that caffeine can hinder chances of conception.
Has anyone else read that?
I am a self-confessed caffeine addict and I'm really trying to cut back but finding it really difficult. I find that I end up with really bad headaches in the afternoons if I dont have any caffeine.
It's stressing me out now that I'm hindering my chances of conceiving because of a coffee habit!!
Does anyone have any tips on ways to cut out caffeine?

Yes it is absolutely true about caffiene can hinder your chances of conception, and during pregnancy any more than 2 cups per day increases your risk of miscarriage. My DD was conceived via IVF and I was specifically told by the nurses at the clinic to avoid caffiene and alcohol, as well as other things.
I guess if you consume a lot you just have to wean yourself off it. Just start by replacing one of your caffiene drinks per day with a decaffienated version, then after 2 days replace 2 of the drinks with decaf, then 3, etc, etc.:flowerz:
I read that caffine can accually stop the implantion process therefore effectivly causing a miscarage without you realising it. i used to drink a fairly large amount of coke and tea i stopped and havereduced my self to one or two cans of coke every few days and i drink a large amount of orange juice and cordial and milo which keeps me active.

Thanks girls - yesterday I had 1 cup of coffee and then decaf for the rest of the day. It was a huge struggle and by mid afternoon I had lost all focus and was almost falling asleep at my desk!! Hopefully today will be a little better.

Im also a huge coffee addict but while TTC and Pregnancy I always switch to Decaf do I can drink as much as I like without worrying and you kind of get used to it after a couple of weeks!!!
Stick in there I no how hard it is to stop drinking the stuff haha I actually kicking my smoking habbit 6 weeks ago was easyier then my Caffine habbit haha!!:O
I have 1 cup of coffee in the morning to get me going then I have one cup of tea in the afternoon for a small pick-me-up and at night I have a cup of decaf tea.
I would never give up my coffee. :D
I know some people seem to get a bit sick from some decaf coffee...they can use chemicals in the decaffinating process that stay in the coffee...so be aware of that too.

Not sure if it helps, but according to libra pads infinite wisdom, apples are actually better at waking you up then coffee :p.
I've been great about coffee. I manged to wean myself off about 6-7 cups per day () down to about 1-2 a fortnight.:smiliedance: But yeah, its hard! good luck!!!
ETA: i also don't drink de-caf. I don't know if you've ever tried it, but 'echo' and 'caro' are two types of non-caffeinated (as opposed to de-caff) drinks out there, which are significantly healthier, and if you don't drink it too close to drinking coffee, even taste reasonably similar.
For non-caff tea, have you tried rooibus (red tea)?

Mimigrace - I've never tried echo or caro but will have a look out for them next time I'm at the shops. As for rooibus tea...DH absolutely loves the stuff and I can't stand it!! I am quote partial to peppermint tea though so might try drinking that in the afternoons.
pkbub - I have read about the chemicals in decaf as well so hoping after a few weeks I wont be drinking that either!!
mummy2noah - I found that giving up smoking was easier than giving up caffeine too!! One day I just stopped and now havent smoked for years!!
Hi ladies,
I switched to decafe about a month before we started TTC. there are allot of brands out there that use chemicals to take the caffine out which you should avoid because they are just as bad! I drink Nescafe Gold Decafe, They use water to take out the caffine so it's no problem.
Good luck!
