View Full Version : What to do...maybe TMI
I was on the pill for 3 years, then depo for 7 years and now the pill (yasmin) for 1 year. We want to start TTC in May/June 09. I didn't get AF at all while on depo and since being on Yasmin I only get a 1-2 day brownish, light AF. When I was first on the pill 10 years or more ago and when I was younger I would always get a regular 4 day medium flow AF. I am thinking about going off the pill now to try and regulate my body but it means using condoms for 6 months (1 month of which will be our honeymoon). Does it make sense to go off the pill now and try and regulate my body for 3 months and perhaps go back on the pill for 1 month on honeymoon and then back off it or will it stuff me around too much? Should I just go off and stay off or should I wait until we come back from honeymoon in April and go off. I really want my body to be in the best position to to and fall straight away (I know it may not) because of my leave at work etc. Opinions?

I think it makes sense... Me and DH did the same thing, condoms for six months were a drag tho, but we we had to use them for half the time anyway cause i was on meds that interfered with the pill...
The downside for me was that my cycles were between 32 to 42 days my first four cycles of the pill, and then when we started ttc my AF went MIA! I'm so frustrated that i didn't make the most of those first four cycles... For me it seems i ended up developing PCOS and the pill had masked the symptoms and maintained regular cycles at first while it wore off...
I guess i just wanted to share my story to let you know the options.. It's a bit of a catch22 you never know if you're going to be the type of person who is regular straight away or who will take a while for your fertility clock to wake up again

Go off now and let your body get back to normal i'm the same as Trixie i developed PCOS and the pill masked the symptoms i didn't get an af for 5 months and have only just managed to ovulate after a year.
Plus you can get used to your cycle while not ttc so there is less stress and when you are ready you will know your body well.
I would get off the pill now, will help your body get back into its normal rythem, especially since you've been on birth control for a long time, the 6mths of useing condoms will fly by, and if you think there is something up with your body, you can get it sorted before you start ttc
good luck with it all
I agree with the others, come off the pill now and give ur body time to regulate. I came off it 5 months ago and it was the best thing I did. condoms are so annoying but I know when we TTC next year my body will b feeling great and pill free :D

:iagree: with all of the above.
Stop taking the pill and let your body regulate itself, you will get to know your real cycles and you will only need to use condoms when you are in your fertile phase. I would suggest a book on natural fertility, I'm sure their are heaps out there but I am most familiar with (because I used it) Natural Fertility by Francesha Nash. The book covers conception and contraception naturally.
Hope all goes well with your wedding. You never know you may not be fertile during your honeymoon so you can go for as you please :D
