Just pondering here on thoughts of.... what happens to your baby if you get pregnant unconciously and take cold and flu tablets or panadol or nurofen or just in general pills and medicine that your not supposed to take during pregnancy?
If they say not to have those pills there must be a reasoning behind it?
Thanks LB
hey littlebutton
I guess its the same with alcohol, the reason they recommend you don't drink or take certain pills during pregnancy is because it increases the risk of some things.
But my doctor said not to get to paranoid about it, just as soon as you find out that you are pregnant you should stop taking the pills or drinking or eating soft cheeses or whatever.

There is def reasoning behind it, but also a LOT of leniency.. I def know most of the drugs are safe enough but just INCASE we are warned to seek Dr advice if u are pregnant. I was soooooooooo grateful when I went to the Dr 8 months preg with the worst cold of my LIFE and they happily said, take the cold and flu tabs! (do NOT take anything not recommended during preg without seeking medical advice first thou!!!)

Thankd girls, just been one of those thoughts, like If you ddnt know, how much damage could you do?
i can actually answer this. with regards to nurofen, as i was recently put on it for four days(however i used it for 2 days and just put up with he pain) prolonged use of nurofen will cause misscarrige or still births in most cases, can also cause brain and lung damage if baby dose survive. so its not good, midwives and drs do become over concerned if you take these meds because of it. and deffenitly not in last trimester. in general its ok if you take it when ur unsure your preg, but if your taking it dayly id talk to dr

Thanks for that honey
Friends of mine are doctors in emergency and they have said codine in low dosage and paracetamol are fine when PG the ibprofen in nurophen (which is an anti-inflamatory) can cause bone defects and the babies development and also increases the chance of miscarrying or stillbirth.
Hope this helps, I suffer with miagraines so it was one of the first questions I asked!:)

Well imagine if you got pregnant and not known? Like VERY unplanned pregnancy... I'd never forgive myself if I had harmed my unborn baby, whether intentional or unintentional.... like I suffer migranes and muscle pain and the only thing that works is neurofen plus, I take it maybe 2 every 4 hours till the pain is gone, and i stay happy and carefree for a few more weeks till the next batch

i wouldnt stress to much, i was on nerofen dayly as i too suffer migranes, and back pain i was taking double the dose, and i was also on anti depressents wich i had to stop all of as soon as i found out wich was 8 weeks. my scans have shown babys fine the hole way through. so not to worrie, but talk to ur dr if ur really worried about it. ull probobly be put on codine, thats what they wanted to give me, but im allergic so i hust get to suffer.

Ask your Dr for a prescription of Panadine Forte, the codine is what helps the blood vessels expand in your brain to help circulation I think thats what they told me. As my friends said plenty of drug addicts and alcoholics get PG and end up with happy healthy babies, if you think their is a chance your PG dont risk it with the nurophen the panadine forte has a larger dosage of codine so you would probably only have to take 2 and it should go. Maybe talk to your GP about preventative medicine and look into a really good remedial massage therapist who will be able to assist in preventing migraines
