Not really a parenting issue but.... do you have to go to hospital to have them removed??

I have 2 on the one side that are giving me grief... I am a big scaredy cat of pain - so which is better - dentist or hospital?????

I went to hospital to have my bottom two extracted. Couple of pills and I didn't know what day it was and don't remember the procedure at all.

The dentist was a whole other story for my top two. I won't go into details, but I'm glad I don't have to do it again.

so you would suggest the hospital??? Everyone I know who had had it done in the dentists chair - does not have nice stories....... the hospital is beginning to look more and more attractive!

I had mine out under general anaesthetic at a day surgery hospital. It was all over before I new it,and NO PAIN!.I would do that again if I had to, rather than get it done at the dentist.

It all depends on how your teeth are, whether they are impacted etc. There are a couple of options though, the dentist may do it with some local anaesthetic where you are awake (this tends to be if they are easy to get out) or they may do it under sedation or a general anaesthetic in more of a hospital type environment. If they are impacted and may be a bit tough to get out, i would suggest you get a referral to a oral surgeon, unless your dentist seems pretty confident.

I had all mine out at the denist, the most recent two days ago, and I was eating dinner that night, absolutly no prob at all.
I'd say it depends on the individual, but I would be more then happy to recommend the denist, its was a no hassle, simple and pain free procedure.
I didnt have local anaesthetic and I think that made it alot easier to recover also.
but this is just my experience, and im also very used to denists, even though im still a bit of a sook.
Good luck with it, if their giving you trouble now, best to get them out straight away
:fingerscrossed: for you :)

I had mine out at the dentist and it was much easier than I had expected!

They gave me a small dose of nitrous oxide (the same gas you get during childbirth) so everything was warm and fuzzy :D

He put clove oil in the cavity - apparently this is a natural anaesthetic and I didn't feel any pain during the op or afterwards - I was eating pizza for dinner that night!

All in all it was a lot less painful than the repeat infections I had been having up till then so I would recommend getting them out if they are giving you grief!

I had 3 of mine removed in the dentist chair.

I was awake but sedated. The anaesthetist said "where do you work" I started answering him & the next thing I remember was being in the recovery room. Apparently I was awake throughout the whole thing, co-operating with them & everything - I dont remember a thing!

My DF had to have all 4 of his removed before he could be deployed. His were done in hospital & I would say I recovered quicker than what he did - although he is a sook!

My dentist recommended I get mine out and gave me areferral to an oral and maxilofacial(sp?) surgeon. She was fantastic. Not sure where you are but this chick is on Brissy southside at Underwood - although this was 6 years or so ago! I think because that's all she did she was soooo good. Went under general at a place in the city and home same day. Absolutley NO bruising. I had heard all the horror stories but had mine out Thurs before Easter and went on picnic and bushwalking on the Sunday.

I had mine out in hospital because they were impacted. They put me under general to do it. I went home the same day. The first week after having it done is pretty yucky but it gets better after that.

Hi,

I had my 3rd wisdom tooth out on Tuesday... I was in pain and it needed to come out... Went to the dentist and she did it then and there... It was a bottom tooth and partial covered by gum, she did an xray and assessed that she wa able to remove it then...

I am in a little bit of pain but not as much as I thought, a little swelling of my face... I worked the following day without problems... My top 2 teeth were also removed at the dentist as they were fully exposed and as easy as a normal tooth extraction...

I would discuss your options with the dentist and get them out sooner rather then later...

Cheers

My husbands' wisdom teeth are growing into the other teeth, but we just can't afford to go to the dentist to get it done. Is it possible to do it in a public hospital?

I had three coming through at the same time and was told by my dentist if they were to give me any trouble in the future it would cost me over $1000 to go to the hospital to have them all removed at once.

They were okay for a while and then started to give me grief so I went to the hospital dental clinic (as I had a health care card) on 3 seperate occassions and had them removed in the chair.

The worst pain is the needle they put in your gum to numb it after that you don't feel anything. Had a little swelling for one of the bottom ones but other then that all good.

And the best thing is it only cost me $60 all up instead of over $1000!!!
