I am just starting to wean my bub from breastfeeding, she's just gone 12 months. I missed her feed in the middle of the day today and have just washed up the breast pump (which hasn't been used for ages anyway as she wont take bottles(but that's a whole other story!)) Anyway it made me feel sad to realise my baby wont be a baby for very much longer.

It's funny how much you forget from the first time around. I remember now being the same with DD1 ready to wean her but sad to be losing that closeness from breastfeeding at the same time. I know there is no need to stop breast feeding now but I do want to and it will take another month or so to fully wean her (I don't ned to rush it) and it wouldn't matter when I did it I will feel this way.

Anyway just wanted to share as I knew there would be plenty of others here who understand this feeling.

:hugs::hugs:

I am doing child led weaning with my son, but I understand weaning can be an emotional time. My mum weaned me when I was five and it was hard.

When my son was only 14 months I thought he was weaning, it turned out to be teething and he became interested again he is 16 months and still breastfeeding. But it was a VERY emotional time for me.

I totally know how you feel. I'm approaching 2 years breastfeeding and will be letting DS decide when he weans, but the thought of him weaning makes me feel very strange. Part of me looks forward to it (get to wear non-maternity bras again, don't have to factor BFing into my choices of tops when shopping for clothes).....but I just love the closeness of BFing so I'm in no hurry whatsoever.

:hugs: Good luck
