af 2 days late but negative hpt

Hi all,
Af was due on the 26th but as ye has not shown up, did hpt this morning with fmu but came up bfn :crying:. Have heaps of preg symptoms
-really tired
-sore bb's (mainly when wearing a bra though) and they feel rather heavy
-frequent urge to visit the bathroom
-nauseous when haven't eaten in a while (rare for me)
-highly emotional and I mean highly emotional (cried while listening to a song yesterday!)

Never get any af symptoms apart from really bad cramping just before af arrives.
Does anyone know what might be happening?

Hi BJK,

What brand of HPT did you use? The last couple of days I've experienced false negatives from Forelife UltraPlus, which is supposedly an extremely sensitive brand (10 mIU compared to normal 25 mIU). I tested on the day AF was due, but they gave me a BFN using FMU, but I got BFPs with two other brands (Crystal Clear and Pregnosis).

If you've got some spare OPKs lying around, they can give you a good indication of whether you should be expecting a HPT BFP or not. hCG is structurally very similar to LH, and OPKs can detect both. I got very positive OPKs on the same FMU sample that gave me my Forelife HPT BFN.

You could just be one of those people that takes several weeks before any hCG can be detected.

I'd definitely recommend a quantitative blood test. It will indicate exactly how much pregnancy hormone you've got in your bloodstream, and even 5mIU is considered a bfp, so you cant beat that!

sarah78 - it was a crytal clear test that I ued this morning and the olny other test of any description that I have is a clear blu digital test. Not sure of what they are like and a bit scared of trying something new. Any ideas on when I should retest??
babylily - I would go to see my doctor but she is now on holidays until 15ht december so will obviously have to be patient.

I used the clear blue digital ones with FMU on the day AF was due and got a :bfp: . I haven't had any problems with them. I would probably wait until tomorrow morning and re test with the digital and FMU. Or if you are really patient maybe leave it until Sunday morning which would be 4 days late.

If it still comes up negative, as sarah78 said, you could be one of those people that takes a little while for the hcg to be detected.
