View Full Version : Do you go by the grobag temp recommendations?

So I bought my grobag yesterday and since we had a whole heap of DJ gift vouchers I bought the groegg too. So with all the info on with what temp what to dress them in and the SIDS and overheating I thought well I'll just follow their guidelines. I am aware that this was designed for kids in the uk so what they think is balmy is still pretty darn cold for us but I thought hey.

So since I only bought the one bag and it's a 1.0 tog I thought I'll set the aircon in her room to stay at about 22 degrees which is aparantly still a bit warm () but in the recommended temp for sleeping babies. the temp stayed at a little over 23 degrees so I dressed her as recommended in a singlet and the grobag with her arms uncovered. It felt a little cool putting her down but her arms are still wrapped so I thought this was my better option rather than 'overheating'.

Well I went in this moring and her arms were out as they usually are but they were stone cold! Inside the bag she was nice and tosty but arms of ice. And the temp said 23.5 degrees. So she was apparantly dresssed apropriately:no:.

So now I'm wondering do I put her down tonight with no aircon and arms uncovered or do I keep the room cold and dress her warmer (my electricity bill will be through the roof!) or should I get the 0.5 tog which is the recommmended one for the over 24 degrees that it naturally would be in her room  and keep the 1.0 tog for winter.

So so so confused. What does everyone else do?

We used them last winter and just followed their directions. Found them really quite effective TBH

i use the temp as a guide, but in the end by being in their room you have a good idea on how to cloth them and which one to use.

I don't really pay too much attention to the recommendations to be honest as i found my DD was always too cold with what they were recommending. At this time of year my DD is dressed in a long sleeve legless bodysuit for bed and then into her gro-bag as i would rather her arms be covered in some way.
If it gets warm in her room i turn the fan on.

I also found that my DD needs more layers than suggested aswell. If it about 22 degrees when she goes to bed, I will put her in a 1.0tog with a long sleeve body suit on. Most babies like to be toasty!!

If I was you I would try the 1.0tog without the aircon and just a singlet or light long sleeve legless bodysuit :)

From the Child Health Nurse:

If you're worried about bubs temp feel her tummy/chest area. If she is warm there (not hot/clammy or cool/cold) then she is fine even if her fingers or arms, legs or toes are cooler/warmer.

I put my baby in a long sleeve, no leg suit too if its under 24C (using a 0.5 tog though). If I hop into bed and its cool enough to want the doona around my shoulders I think she should have her arms covered too?

We put DD down in a 1.0tog bag with a long sleeved top under it when her rooms around 22c. Anything higher than that and we'll put her in a short sleeved top.

I often put my little one in a long sleeve shirt with the sleeves rolled up when the room temp is kind of on the borderline. That way when the temp drops in the early hours I can just roll down the sleeves to help keep his little arms warm.
