hello everyone...

this is purely and utterly a self indulgent winge as there is no ice cream or chocolate in the house:(

I know youve probably all heard the saying about farmers "wingeing cockys" ....well now I know why - when you get your living from a farm IT NEVER WORKS!!

you may think if its so hard why stay - well the answer isnt as simple as you may think. My DH has grown up knowing no different, as a young adult he was encouraged to come back to the farm as back then there was enough profit for everyone to make a decent living. So, as a result he has no other skills and basically it really is in his blood

Now, the reason for my winge today is the following ---

we decided to plant a crop of wheat this year as the long range weather reports were looking good and we had to do something to financially catch up after years of no crop.

So we gambled and spent a fortune planting it - when we planted the price of wheat was $450 a tonne(very good price) - we thought and were told it should stay the same as there is a world shortage of grain.....BUT you guessed it, its dropped down to $200 a tonne :hair: - that was the first bummer...

After we planted we had some great rain, it was faaantastic, the wheat was looking brilliant - BUT last week it was ready to harvest, nice and ripe and then we get 2 inches of rain.....which can make it worthless as it continues to grow and is called 'shot and sprung'. This means the value drops and is classed as feed wheat and is worth lower than $100 tonne, which means we will be lucky to cover our costs:crying::hissy::banghead:..........

argh, its so frustrating, you dont want to wish the rain away because its fantastic but why o why did it have to rain THAT much exactly in time to ruin the wheat....bloody hell

Rain is predicted in another day or so so we are trying to find a header but obviously everyone is in the same boat so headers are hard to get atm..

DH is very worried, I usually try and stay optimistic for him so it was good to have vent on here - thanks for reading.........and pray to god, speak to buddha, sacrafice a cow, make a spell or whatever works for you so that the rain will stay away until the grain is safely in the silo

hmmm....I feel better now...;)

Where abouts are you Lizzo?

Hoping on a dry spell until you can finish the work... I don't envy the life of a farmer regardless of what they farm  Its a hard life
