Hi,
The spare room which is now the baby room used to be where the computer went and my Golden Retriever Lily used to lie in there with me and now there is a horrible, very pungent dog odour in the air and in the carpet that won't budge!
I have tried: bi-carb, carpet powder, carpet foam, febreeze, glen20 and smelly pet air fresheners. NOTHING works!
I'm getting kind of desperate as that is the only spare room left in the house and I don't want my baby sleeping in that odour and I don't think it will be good either.
I swear to God it won't budge! Any pet owners that have had the same prob please give me an idea what I can do?
We don't have any other bedrooms and we rent so yeah.

vinegar
when i moved house my dog started peeing in one spot i tried all the above things you mentioned but vinegar was the only thing to get it out
if you can put up with the smell off it for 1-2 days it will be as good as new
worked a treat for me:wizard:

What do I do with it??? Do I put it in to a spray bottle?? The thing is half the room probably has the odour locked in. Because Lily lay around that half of the room in a few spots so its probably several places on the one half of the room that smells where the computer table was.

Another reason why I don't have carpet :p (sorry)
Mind you, I'm going to try vinegar on my sofa...I spray with that oust 2 in 1, but it only lasts a day or two (although, my dog is on the every day:doh:)

Well we rent so we don't have much choice in the matter.
As for the vinegar I sprayed it on straight on to the carpet and ill vacuum the floor tomorrow arvo. I have left the window open and the door to let air flow through.

Darn, I saw Kim and Aggie treating carpet affected by dogs the other day..not having a dog I can't recall what they put in the water, but they did scrub it with a brush to get right down into the fibres. It was soapy so can't have been just vinegar. Bi carb usually does the trick. Check the hints in the home thread - Ask Aunty Sodor, she has some great tips.

i tried bicarb at my last house .. if its not washed in properly its leaves white marks and just doubles the work load hahaha
but as LCM said its got to get into the fibres so you have to soak the carpet
hope you get the smell out :fingerscrossed:

I was gonna vacuum the floor after the vinegar has dried and then really sprinkle a lot of bi-carb all over the carpet and leave it for a day and vacuum it up.
