Hi there,
I was wanting to know if anyone out there is booked in with midwives at Bankstown Hospital?
If so.....I have a really stooooopid question to ask.
I know that they ask us to do our own urine test using the test strips, plus measure our weight each time we have an appointment.
When/how exactly do I do this?? The midwife who first explained it to me had such a heavy accent that I didn't quite understand. After that I felt stupid asking for help. So I just wanted to get in early and ask in the forum if anyone knows WHAT IS THE DEAL with the whole thing???
Sounds silly....but I'd feel so much relief if I just KNEW what to do instead of worrying about it leading up to my next appointment.

i dont do antenatal there now as i'm not pregnant lol but i did my antenatal appointments at bankstown hospital with both my DS and DD....
what you do is you go into the weigh room with your yellow card, weigh yourself and write down your weight in your yellow card. then just to the right of the scales is a black container with the test strips. you go grab one of those and go to the toilet and pee on it. (i cant remember exactly how things went as i havent been there for about 18-19 months, which was my last appointment before my DD was born) but you check the test strip after you have pee'd on it against the chart thats on the wall inside the toilet and you write it on the card too, next to where you wrote your weight. i think the pee thing is the protein levels. but i cant remember exactly how it worked....then when you have weighed yourself and pee'd then you go to the desk and give them your card. she will then tell you to take a seat and then you just wait til your name is called.....
HTH....and good luck :)
p.s where abouts in Bankstown are you? i'm in yagoona.
i assume this is your first time at bankstown hospital....i had both my children at bankstown hospital. its just 2 minutes down the road from me lol..

Thanks SOOOOOOOOOOO much for all that info!! You don't understand how much better I'm going to feel when I go in there next time. I was getting so worried about it all.
Anyways, all your info was great. Will have to confirm with midwife what exactly to write on the yellow card with protein levels etc. I'm just really annoyed that it wasn't explained clearly in the first place. But I guess I'm just a number to them.
I live in georges hall at the moment. I had my DS at Westmead because we were living closer to Parramatta at the time. Bankstown is nice and small, yet as I say, not very clear on directions regarding the yellow card system.
But I feel MUCH better now, thanks!!

no problems :D
i didnt have any problems when i went there, you must of got a bad midwife lol...i had some bad ones in maternity ward that couldnt speak english properly and got frustrated with them a lot because they all had differing opinions on how to do things.
i am so glad you feel much better about it :hugs:
georges hall isnt far at all :D
i know the first time i went there i was really nervous about it all. but after the first few times you get to know what you are doing and it becomes second nature.
good luck! :hugs:

Hey there pinkgingham :) I have my appointment tomorrow morning....but thanks for thinking of me :o Thanks to your help, I know just what to do! Go straight in, weigh myself, grab a cup and a test strip (or two), pee and check results. THEN check in at the counter and wait for my middie.
Simple.
I feel kinda dumb getting all worried over it. Must be cos I had a lot of stuff going on at the time as well  funny how the brain works.

Well....the pee thing was fine, the weighing myself thing was fine. But because I "checked in" (or so I thought) while I was asking for a pee cup, I ended up not realising that I had to return my yellow record card to the desk.
So after waiting for 1 hour, something clicked in my head and I went up to the desk to ask why it was taking so long....and the lady said, why are you holding your card, you should've given that to us.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr............
Now I'm NOT a bimbo at all. But today I sure felt like one! I explained to the midwife that a simple set of instructions on A5 paper would make the whole thing SOOOOO much easier and stress free.
What to do.
My bad.
