my son has got terrible nappy rash, its soooo red!his peepee and balls are red, then theres a few dots here and there.it looks really sore, starting to sort of peel.it doesnt seem to bother him tho.
im frequently changing his nappy, letting him have no nappy time and apply zinc&castor oil cream every nappy change.
im just worried coz hes never had it like this before, and hes cut his first teeth a month ago so i dont think its teething related.
should i go to the doctor?i just think they will prescribe a cream and im already using the best one!
my poor wee mate:(

I was going to ask the same questions. Is he teething? Matthew always gets really bad nappy rash when he's teething, even if I manage to change him withni 2mins of him pooping. He ends up red raw and bleeding. :(

Bepanthen cream is really good for nappy rash, sprinkle baby powder over the top of it (it makes a thick crust and stops the area getting moist). Try and leave his nappy off throughout the day too if you can.

I hope he feels better soon.

Hi,
My son is just over 18mths and has had bad nappy rash for about 3wks and know for 4wks he has an eyetooth just sit there. The point of it is there but it just won't come through. I was told to try cornflour coz its meant to dry it up but I tried that yesterday and it just made it worse as my DS can take his nappy off and he just scratches which has made it worse. I was using zinc & castor oil then changed back to Johnson&Johnson cream. So we will see how that goes.

Goodluck:hugs:

As the other smart ladies before me have said have a look at his diet or whether he is teething as this could be a cause of it or even just a little tummy bug.
I would have to say steer away from a lot of the well known nappy rash creams ( weird considering i used to advocate them  ). Dont get me wrong Bepanthen & the Curash cream & powder are great to help prevent rashes to a point but for me they have never helped much with the really bad ones.
I found my best friend a few months back when i went into a health food shop !
Asking for calendula cream they advised me that Brauers makes a nappy cream from calendula & other natural ingredients. It has become the best thing i have ever invested in ! Ive just made our local chemist order some in for me (3 tubes) & they have decided to keep a tube instock & see how it goes.
Its not thick & gunky like the other creams its very lite & not greasy takes moments to be rubbed into the skin & i found it works within the day to clear up a really bad rash. It doesnt leave marks on cloth nappies if you use them which was another reason i was desperate to find a new cream.
Good luck hope bubs feels better soon !

This won't really help fix it too much but will definately stop the urine and faeces irritating the rash more. Just mix up bi-carb into a paste and paste it all over little one's bum and 'voila' you have the nappy rash cream of yester year!;) If it worked for our grandparents it can work for us!

Before trying differnent lotions and potions, I would take him to the Dr's or a CHN to make sure it isn't fungal (thrush). If it is, don't stuff around with other creams, get the correct antifungal (Dakazin??) and make sure you are washing clothes, bedding, towels and nappies (if using cloth) in hot water or an appropriate antifungal wash to prevent reinfection.

I believe teething poos or food reactions usually cause redness around the anus first. In that case, barrier creams may help. Unfortunately they also stop the skin from breathing and interfer with the natural healing process. Best thing is to change frequently and keep the area dry as you have already mentioned you are doing.

Could it be a contact rash with the nappy or wipes that you are using? Just some thoughts.

Oh yes wipes will only make it worse. If you can use cotton wool or cloth to wipe babies bottom. At least till it clears up!;)

Ooooh yes nasty nasty nappy wipes could be irritating it !
I realised this the day i had a cut on my finger & was using a nappy wipe to clean up bubs ( before we changed to all clothe incl face washers for wipes ) & it stung like all hell & they say its free from alcohol !!!!!! pfffft there has to be something that causes a sting like that !!!!
I also agree with Lucy maybe taking bubs to get everything checked to make sure it isnt a fungal problem.
Thats also why i like the Brauers cream it isnt a barrier cream but actually helps soothe sore bums !

I have found paw paw ointment to be the best. Calendula is good too but my personal opinion is that paw paw clears up nappy rash quicker.

K has just had a terrible nappy rash. I was advised to put two layers of cream, so I used vaseline underneath and then a thick layer of sudocream. He is now rash-free.

That daktazin cream works great, especially for very nasty red raw fungal rashes. If it is too bad, they recommend using a cortisone cream as well.,

If the rash is a bit spotty it is most likely thrush, which can be caused by teething, try Daktozin, works a treat for nappy rash and thrush.
