My darling girl is 9 weeks tomorrow. She is a pretty good night sleeper...sleeps about 7pm till 2am then feeds and goes straight back down until about 6am...so i know i can't complain.

But...daytime is a nother story altogether. She just doesn't want to sleep at all..maybe 2 20min sleeps all day!! i am just worried that it is going to effect her with all the lack of sleep.

When she is awake she is generally happy and just wants to play. She also feeds every 2 hours.

WHen we do put her to sleep she only likes to be held and patted to sleep. i know this is apparently not a good thing. I have tried the pattig in the cradle...is ie bad for me to continue patting her to sleep in my arms and thenputting her down when she is asleep.

she has times in the day where she will lay in the crib for 40 mins at a time but she doesnt fall asleep or fuss

any ideas or advice?

Wow.. she is a fantastic sleeper.. u lucky ducky!!!!
Have you tried wrapping her? My ds would not have a bar of being swaddled but at 8 wks I was desperate and gave it a go. He loved it and it fixed our probs at the time.
Does she show tired signs throughout the day?? At least ur dd is happy and not phased by little daily sleep. Makes it hard for you to get anything done though hey...
I love the book "the contented little baby book" by Gina Ford. It is excellent and it explains babies and their sleeping patterns. The recc ammount of daily sleep is 3 hrs from memory. The book has routines 4 bub from 2 wks to 12 months and it was my saviour. I started ds on her routines at 8 wks and have not looked back. :flowerz:

Hi. My DS is 10 weeks old and is the same. To be honest, this sounds VERY common. Most the mums in my mums group have the same problem. DS wont sleep unless he's rocked in his rocker, or walked in his pram. Occassionaly he'll go down in the portable cot in the lounge room.

My advice? I've just decided not to worry about it and deal with it later. Once I decided to do that I felt a whole lot better ;)

Thank you both for your advice....

i think i have decided that the main thing at this point is for her to sleep and if me patting her and holding her to get to sleep works then i am happy to do it.

i guess i will deal with the problems that i cause now later on

Hi Jess

My DD who is 12 weeks now went through something similar. I found the swing to be great with her for daytime sleeps. We are now at the stage where I can pop her in her cot awake and she can fall asleep. I just went with what she wanted and she grew out of having to be held to go to sleep etc
