This made me bawl my eyes out.
To lose one child is hard enough but two wow how that family must be coping is beyond words.
My heart goes out to them & i hope they can band together & be strong to get through this heartache.

Very sad, but I agree how were they allowed to wander for enough time for it to happen!

Very tragic. :crying:

On a farm, at dusk, it would have been easy to lose track of them for a couple of minutes, and a couple of minutes is all it takes for a couple of 2 year olds to get far enough away to get into trouble.
I don't think any of us, or anybody at all, needs to blame the parents/relatives. They'll be blaming themselves for the rest of their lives. :crying: :crying: :crying:

I agree, 5 seconds is long enough for a 2yr old to disappear.

Absolutely - You can't watch them every second of every day, no matter how much you'd like to.

Those poor parents. They will never get over it, never forgive themselves.

Its too sad for words.

Fully agree with the_queen on this one. Those parents will be blaming themselves for the rest of their lives needlessly of course. IMO they don't need to be publicly blamed on a forum.

My DS2 was a "wanderer" from the moment he could crawl and I thank my lucky stars each and every day that he got to outgrow that terrible phase of life.I do recall one incident (at 18 months old)where I locked the screen doors to our house and went to the toilet (for a maximum of 1 minute I swear) and came out to find a chair next to the open front door and no DS2. Lucky for me he had wandered next door to where the neighbourhood kids were playing.

In that ONE incident alone I could have been "a horrible mother" in some peoples thoughts and certainly my own. So how about we cut them a bit of slack??

Aparently they were with their Grandparents at the time. They have had to be sedated according to newspaper reports. They must be going through hell. Poor people. Blaming people wont bring the children back. As people have said, they will have to live with this for the rest of their lives. I think the family need peoples empathy, not condemnation.

I remember when Jacob was 4 and Brooke was 3. I'd locked the front door and put the chain on it then went and had a quick 5min shower. When I got out the front door was open and the kids were riding their bikes up the street. Jacob had gotten a chair and taken the chain off. Thankfully we live in a town with not much traffic.
I'd been asking the real estate agent weekly for 12mths for a screen door for this very reason so that I could lock it and put the key up high. After I went in there and told them what had happened, I had my screen door a week later.

so sad indeed, twins move like lighting and have each other as help, and can get into anything twice as fast as single kids. (same for kids who have a bro/sis to help them)

All I thought of when I heard this was these two poor little darlings struggling to breathe in the water, pulling each other down faster trying to get out. Or one fell in, and the other tried saving them.

So very sad, poor kids, poor family.

A similar incident happened in Brisbane recently. A 3 year old drown in a water tank on a rural property. All of you out there with rainwater tanks take precautions!!!!!

You'd be surprised at how fast 2 year olds do dissapear, litterally turn your back and they are gone. Such a tragic accident, something no parent could ever get over.
I'm sure all our prayers are with them tonight.

This is a tragic loss but I have a two year old and how quickly he can dissapear out of my sight is amazing and children are so curious. I feel for the parents and the grandparents who the children where in care of at the time.:crying:
