I am just wondering.... does a newborn bub get any colostrum when your milk supply is already established from feeding your toddler? If they don't... does it matter?
And what it is like for a newborn to get milk straight away because your supply is already established? Compared to getting smalls amounts of colostrum and then proper milk a few days later.
I was just thinking about this the other day and am really interested to know :)

During pregnancy sometime your milk will go back to colostrum and will change back to milky milk a little after birth.
Just like before, except you wouldn't be new to it. :)

Ok so if your feeding a toddler and your milk goes back to more colostrum like during pregnancy, does that mean they won't really be getting much milk anymore?!

Yeah, they'd probably be getting the little amounts of colostrum.

Exactly.
Which is why around 50% of children will wean as a direct result of pregnancy, some will stick it out for the 'comfort sucking' and small amount they do get, the rest just call it a day...
The look on a toddlers face when your milk comes in after the baby is born is just priceless! They think all their Christmases have come at once...
Here is a great article:

I've inspected my milk to see what changes are going on:laughing:
I've noticed in the side the DD is not interesed in there is only colosturm there. DD does not like to suck on that side any more.
On the side that she will take one feed out of a day and comfort suck on for her other 2 'feeds' there is milk. Not the milky milk though but more of a strawy coloured milk, yet not quite colostrum.
Did that make sense:laughing:
