A few months ago my MCHN noticed that DD had uneven skin thigh folds so she sent us to our GP to check that everything was ok. My GP had a very quick feel of her hips and didn't even really look at her skin folds and told me everything is fine.
But just today I found out that one of my friends bubs who is 10 days younger than my DD went to see a paediatrician for the same reason. The MCHN and GP couldn't feel anything wrong with her hips but referred her anyway. My friends bub had a scan which showed possibly slight hip dysplasia and so is going for another specialist scan.
Should I be worried? Should i get a second opinion? And has anyone had a bub with uneven folds that never had a scan and ended up being fine?

i don't think you should worry as such but i would recommend a second opinion and u/s to check them, better to be safe then sorry.
both my girls have had uneven lines. DD1 had u/s and they showed a shallow socket but as she grew it fixed itself. DD2 didn't have anything wrong, she just had one leg that was slightly bigger (read fatter ) then the other so the rolls were a bit different causing the lines to look different.

I dont know anything about this but if you feel you need a second opinion and a referral you go ahead and do that. There is nothing wrong with second guessing a doctor, it makes them do their jobs better. I've had the same problem with referrals on a different matter and it pays to be persistent.
My DD was born breech and therefore had to have a hip/joint scan at around 6 weeks I think. Anyway, they found no signs of hip displasia and her hip bones rolled well in the joints etc.
Since I can remember, (she is 2 years 3 mths old now) she has had uneven skin folds, and I was told the same thing as you, just see a Gp to get it checked out.
If you're really worried, despite the Gp's opinion, maybe ask for a scan to put your mind at ease. I have been told to make sure she doesn't sit with her legs folded back behind her or underneath her, which is her favourite ways to sit.
I was also told the same thing with DD when I had those midwife visits you get just after you get home. When she was laying on her belly, her fat rolls on the back of her legs didn't match or something (was almost 7 yrs ago so can't remember exactly). She was born 10lbs, 14 oz, so she was really chubby  I wasn't told to have scans or anything, just get dr to check it out. She's now almost 7 & has never had any probs from it. In saying that though, I agree with the others, if you're concerned, I'd go & get a 2nd opinion.

Thanks everyone!! I wasn't worried at all till my friend mentioned it today so I think I will just discuss it with my MCHN at my next visit. Was just wondering if she should have gone for a scan or not. My feeling is that my DD is fine!!

Hi.. this same thing happened with my Daughter, at her 6 month check up the health nurse noticed uneven skin folds, sent her to the GP who couldnt see it but said that as someone has picked it up we should have xray to be safe, and it turned out both her hips were displastic, and we are now waiting to see a specialist :( Im looking for any information on this as well if anyone can give me some ideas of what im in for?
