This Question is more so for the NON vaxxers and DELAY vaxxers.

I mentioned to my sons childcare teacher that my older kids school has had quite a few cases of chicken pox and she said the nursery room (my sons room) had had one case confirmed and now the mother of that child has it too!

I said oh there must be a few under 18monthers in the room who had not had the vax who have no been exposed, i wonder how many more will get it.

she said she didnt know it was 18months for that vax she thought it was 12 months. She already knows my son is a "CO" (delayed vax) so i told her he hasnt had this vax.

It got me thinking...when will they tell me? Will it be after the 2nd confirmed case- which makes it the "outbreak"?

Do you know how many cases of a vaxxed disease your child will be exposed to before your childcare tells you about it?

Do you think you should be told at the first confirmed one?

they always put a notice up in the room and a note in each cubby at our centre.

I would have thought they would have told people at the first occurrence, if only so that parents could be on alert for the first signs.

I'd think that if ONE child was there that risked the other kids getting it, you would be told.

Either way, vaxxed or not, I'd be keeping my child away until both children were completely better and there were no more cases of it.

This stuff catches and vaxxed or not I wouldn't risk the exposure.

Most organisations, schools etc have charters or rules on when, how, etc they alert parents to different occurrences such as disease outbreaks.

I have a friend with an unvaxed child at primary school and there's been a recent outbreak of whooping cough. She has not been officially notified at all, and the child has not been excluded from class:confused:

Chicken pox is a tricky one, because isn't the incubation period about 3 weeks? Wouldn't most of the cc centre have been exposed to the disease before the confirmation? Still, I would've thought an unvaxed/delayed child's parent would be informed at the first diagnosis.

At our centre it is their policy to put up a sign with all the info about what's going around, signs, symptoms etc as soon as a parent lets them know a child is ill. Goes for everything from headlice to roseola to chicken pox. I always make it a priority to phone kindy if DD is sick(even if it's not a kindy day) to let them know what she possibly has(and they alert parents verbally) then let them know when it's confirmed(that's when they put up a sign).

I would have thought all centres would do the same, not wait until X number of kids has it to inform people.

I agree with NM. But that's similar to what I already said. :)

Our centre puts it up on a board as you walk in the main door, and another sign on each rooms door. They dont' say 'in this room' just 'in the centre'.

at DS's old school they used to have a white board and they would put up for eg. "1 confirmed case of chicken pox" and usually the next time it will be "6 confirmed cases of Chicken pox"

I am putting my other DS who is not vaxxed into DC next year and im worried about him catching some of the diseases but one of the teachers said that that hardly ever get any cases of anything in there. Feeling a little relieved but if there were a case of measles for example i would wanto to know ASAP

AT the centre DD goes to, they put a big notice on the front door as you walk in.

You cannot help but see it.

:yelclap: I like being fully informed (even though DD is vaxed). I think ALL parents, vaxed or not, should be informed to watch for symptoms.

Ive been told that two cases is an "outbreak" and thats when they put it on the sign board and ring all the families with CO forms.

So the fact that there is one confirmed case in my sons room was not something they needed to tell me. His teacher just let it slip in conversation and until there is another confirmed case they would not have told me or any other parent.

 not happy!

I've seen a few notices at James's CC when there was a foot and mouth outbreak. The number got crossed out a few times a the new number got written above.

They just put a sign on the door at DS' school and they only ring those with a CO form if it is something that Nation Health and Medical Research council recommendations which basical advises they should exclude for. The only exclude non immunised and not infected kids for whooping cough and measles...
