I was cleaning out my room & I gave my bub some old perfume boxes to play with & she started to get whingy so I brought her out to the loungeroom & noticed a nasty bite on her foot. I ran back into the room to see if I could find what bit her but could find nothing. I keep panicking that it could have been something dangerous & thinking if it is I would have to act fast. What do you do if your baby is bitten & you don't know what it was?

Her bite is red with a hard white dot in the middle (like a lump). I have been keeping a very close eye on it for the past 10 mins & it does seem to be getting smaller.

Any advice for a panicky mum would be great, cheers

With out knowing what it was its hard to know, perhaps if you can take her to the GP or emergancy to get her checked out

Id probably ring up the local doctor or hospital and ask them about it and see what they say - Im sure would tell you what to look for and ask you to bring her in if they think it needs to be checked?

Ok I might give her her breakfast & then see if I can make an appoint to see the doctor. Is there any line that I can call to ask about bites?

It seems to definatly be getting smaller but the white lump is still there. She doesn't seem to be acting any different either which I would assume is a good sign.

If it was me that was bitten I wouldn't have cared

You could try and ring the local hospital - and ask to speak to someone in the emergency department about it?

I'd call the poison advice line

http://ausdi.hcn.net.au/poisons.html

If its not the right people to speak to they should be able to point you in the right direction

Ok thanks for all of your replies I think I will ring the poison hotline & ask them. If it gets worse or seems suspect (& I will be keeping a very close eye) I will definitaly take her directly to the doctors or hospital. Thankfully all seems to be fine at the moment. Thanks again for your feedback!

I would just keep a really close on on her. Look out for things like grumpiness, temp, off food etc and keep checking the wound to see if it changes. My DS gets mosquito bites like you described. It starts off as a hard small lump with white undeneath then gets redder and swells. He has bad reactions to mosquito bites.
I hope she is ok. No harm in ring someone to ask their advice.
