Hi Ladies

I am new to BUBHUB and I found this place during a google search on information on PCOS.

Last year I was diagnosed with PCOS as I have cysts on my ovaries. I do not suffer from weight gain, acne, hair growth problems, infact the only symptom of PCOS I have is cysts on my ovaries. I have regular periods average 27 - 28 days apart.

Now, DH and I are going to try for our first child and I am full of questions. We would like to be pregnant within a year :fingerscrossed:

I would like to know your experiences.

I need to start finding out if I am ovulating, and this requires blood tests, should I start this process now?

How long does it take to find out if I am regularly ovulating? Are blood tests the only way to find this out?

Once established if I am ovulating or not, what is the next step from here? If I am ovulating, what now? If I am not, what next?

Is there a way to remove the cysts from my ovaries? Surgery? If so, what are the risks involved and does this make me any more fertile and easier to get pregnant in the future ??

Thanks so much for your help, if you can answer any of the above questions from your own experience, knowledge or experience of a friend or family member.

Thanks again!!

Hi Greenapple

Welcome to Bub Hub, from another newbie.

I think I'm the opposite with the PCOS. I had most of the the symptoms, but never sure about the cysts.

Definitely make an appointment with your GP and talk to them about where to start. Not sure if they would do any testing so soon after starting to TTC.

You can get ovulation test kits from the chemist. You could try those for a while and see how you go.

I can't help with the rest of your questions, but I'm sure someone else can.

Good Luck!!! :)

hi and welcome to bubhub.

have you charted your cycles at all to see if you have ovulated? theres a site called fertility friend where you can chart ur cycles with ovulation kets witch u can get few good deal on them from ebay. and by temping your bbt.
like you said u been ttc 3 years go see ur gp and get a ref to see a FS/GYNO and they will do more tests
if its to be found your not ovulating id say FS would put you on clomid. and give you a cd 21 blood test to make sure you have ovulated.

you can get the cysts removed with Surgery.
i am unsure of the risks, maybe google it? and yes its been told that it can make you really fertilie and can be easyer to fall pregnant.

hope this helps sorry its short

Hi Greenapple,

So you have PCO and Not PCOS.

As previously suggested grab some OPK's and start tempting in the mornings. you will soon know if you ovulate or not. That would be my first recommendation. I have never had a blood test to find out if I am O or not because my temps and OPK's say I do.

Surgical removal is not at all common. It is a last option after drugs.

Metformin and Clomid are two fertility drugs on offer, Clomid is the drug to try and help you ovulate if you dont and Metformin has a wide range of uses including fertility.

check out www.posaa.asn.au (http://www.posaa.asn.au) it is the Australian PCOS website all the information you could ever need on PCOS you will find out there by searching or by asking other women, there are thousands of PCOS women who use it.

GAH I didn't ovulate this month, temps have been up and down and all over the place. I don't want to go into to much detail, but I can feel when my body is ovulating, I get a temp rise 'down there' that I can feel. This month it has been a icebox ... :S
