On the 26th of May Australia will hold a National Day of Healing :)

This years theme is Journey of Healing and represents Indigenous and Non Idigenous Australians looking together to the sun, expressing our hope that we can create a better future together.

Attending local free events, buying a badge, poster, tshirt , hand band or cd is a way of showing support.

It does not mean you know what to do. That understanding may only come through listening and learning, finding out what has gone wrong. That was the process which led to the 54 reccomendations of "Bringing them Home" the report of the National inquiry into Australia's forced removal policies. It is a valuable guide to healing the wounds.

On National Healing Day, hundreds of thousands of Australians grieve together. For many who still suffer due to these policies, this expression of community empathy furthers the healing process. If we continue, we will see healing come, and Australia will be known for its respect and appreciation between its first people and the wider community. Nothing on in my little town either. I think it's something that should have a ribbon to buy....my SIL's mum was a stolen child and I wish I could attend a big event. At least if I could wear a ribbon I could still show my support.

my mum had something at her office for sorry day today. she works at docs in south west sydney. she had all the aboriginal elders from that area come in and they must of had discussions and stuff.

i dont know what happened coz i got there late just as everyone was leaving but they all were there to say hello to my son and everyone there had a hold and a maul (koori people like to aggressively kiss and cuddle little babies, but in a loving way of course! :D ) of him and all told me how gorgeous he is..der i know... :p

and everyone in her office had a good hold at RJ. i almost didnt get him back!!!

i felt a bit bad that i came in late and missed it all but then found out a cousin who i'm sort if not getting along with turned up (uninvited) there so its just as well i didnt go. but i would have liked to. oh well there is always next year.

Peter Garret is a bit of a hero for me.

I heard him speak at a WA Council of Social Services conference about the need for good working relationships between lobby groups and the government. He was interesting, dynamic and entertaining. Wonderful man, love his politics, love his music, love his compelling personality.

Thanks for the links about the National Day of Healing S! A significant and important day indeed.
