On the 26th of May Australia will hold a National Day of Healing :)
This years theme is Journey of Healing and represents Indigenous and Non Idigenous Australians looking together to the sun, expressing our hope that we can create a better future together.
Attending local free events, buying a badge, poster, tshirt , hand band or cd is a way of showing support.
It does not mean you know what to do. That understanding may only come through listening and learning, finding out what has gone wrong. That was the process which led to the 54 reccomendations of "Bringing them Home" the report of the National inquiry into Australia's forced removal policies. It is a valuable guide to healing the wounds.
On National Healing Day, hundreds of thousands of Australians grieve together. For many who still suffer due to these policies, this expression of community empathy furthers the healing process. If we continue, we will see healing come, and Australia will be known for its respect and appreciation between its first people and the wider community. Abstract from www.journeyofhealing.com website
