Does anyone have a tried and tested recipe??
How will they go on the tree? I don't care about being able to eat them, but will they be ok on the tree for about a month?
And icing......I just want white, but again need a recipe for something taht will remain unmelted on the tree.
Any ideas appreciated!! :xmastree:(yay xmas smilies!!)

Growing up my mother used to do a Victorian themed christmas tree in the living room complete with gingerbread cookies on the tree. She just used a regular recipe like you'd find in any old cookbook, but put a hole in the head for the ribbon before baking. I dont think she used icing though, and we never had issues with mice, but my brother used to like to snack on the rather stale cookies so by Christmas you were pretty much left with a bunch of hanging heads!

I'm with veve, maybe make them out of brown clay and use white puff paint and glitter glue to decorate them.
Then you can use them every year and make gingerbread later for eating. ;)

Hmmm.....I don't think we would have a problem with mice or any 'ickies'.........worst case scenario, I'll just have to take them all off!!
I just thought, though, I think the recipes I need would be tha same as people use to make gingerbread houses........with that icing that withstands the elements so to speak!
If anyone can help me out with a recipe they have actually used, that'd be great. Otherwise I'll just try googling later tonight.

What about popping them into little ziplock bags you could still put the hole into the head and put the ribbon through (I think something thin like the curling robbon you use on pressies should be able to be ziplocked) just ziplock them to keep out the nasties and keep them fresh.
Sorry no help on the recipe I haven't made them yet (I did by a tiny little cutter earlier in the year though) a GF often makes the Greens packet ones though and says they are yummy and come with the icing and a cutter!
