Not so long ago my little girl was sleeping beautifully during the day; up for an hour or so and down for about 3 during the daytime.

Suddenly, about 3 weeks ago, it all went out the window and I have no idea why.

She is now 13.5 weeks old and between the hours of about 7am and 11pm she will only sleep for 40 minutes at a time no matter what I do. She's like clockwork, you can predict what time she will wake when you put her down to the minute when she will wake up. I've tried putting her to bed earlier, later, making sure she's really full and resettling her when she wakes (and before she wakes), sleeping her in different locations, white noise etc but nothing works.

I've been searching online for solutions but all I can find is sleep experts going on about how important it it that they get 2 hour sleeps and how you should do whatever you can to ensure this with no explanation as to how.

I've read a lot of parents online saying it's fine for a lot of babies to only catnap during the day, but she's not fine. After her second sleep she's horribly grouchy for the rest of the day and is so overtired come 7pm bedtime it's not funny (but she still wakes up at 7.40pm)!

By the end of every day she looks like a little junkie with her eyes hanging out of her head. Does anyone have any idea as to how I can get her to have decent sleeps during the day?

My DD was the same when she was that age too. I was lucky though as she was rarely grumpy. I think it's an age thing, they become more aware with the enviroment around them and just don't want to miss anything!

How many naps is she having a day? She may be ready to drop one and stay up a bit longer between sleeps.

Also check this site (http://www.babybliss.com.au/Services/purchase.htm) out, they have some good routines which might help you out a bit.

DS was exactly the same. During the day he only ever slept for 45 mins at a time. Obviously he would prefer to be awake and grumpy rather than have another nap. Our pattern was feed, play, sleep, play, sleep. I just learned to live with it. He was just so interested in what was going on around him he struggled to close his eyes. As one bubhubber put it one day at a bubhub meeting, "that wasn't a nap, that was an extended blink!". :p
