I am only 6 weeks pregnant and I am wanting to go to St George Private Hospital in Sydney. Can anyone recommend a good obstetrician?

Hi Bec. A friend of mine recommended Dr Karen Harris, at Suite 14, level 3 St George Private Hospital, 1 South St Kogarah, phone number (02) 9553 1011.

I haven't used her, or St George Private, so couldn't comment...

Good luck.

Hi Bec,

I had my dd at St George Private 4 months ago, all in all it was a great experience. My obstetrician was Dr P, and I have nothing but praise for the wonderful job that he did. I found him to be very thorough and careful. Another thing that I really liked about Dr P was that he never rushed my appointments, he loved a good chat and took his time to reassure me and answer all of my questions . I would really recommend him. He has a few offices around and has one within the hospital.

Good luck

Thank you to both of you for your comments.

I know a friend's sister who used Dr Child at St George. I have made an appointment with him just so I am booked in with someone. I have my appointment at the end of next week. It's a bit early because I will be just under 9 weeks but because I had a miscarriage earlier this year it was suggested I go for my first appointment earlier.
I don't really want to ask people I know who have been to the hospital yet because I haven't told anyone I'm pregnant. I will see how I go with Dr Child and then see if I want to change.

Dee Dee, apart from the nice things you said about Dr P can I ask you a few other questions? How old is he? Is he fairly open to whatever birth you want to have ( ie active, hypnobirthing etc...??). Did he make it to the hospital in time for your birth? How much out of pocket expenses did you have with him ( you don't have to answer that last one if you don't feel comfortable doing so).

Thanks a lot.

Hi

Just answering your questions about doctor P. I'd say he would be about mid fifties. Not sure about how open he is to different birthing techniques, as I was induced and had absolutely no progression into labour and ended up needing a caesarean. All up I was out of pocket quite a few thousand with the way things turned out, can't really remember exactly how much. Lets just say the baby bonus did not civer all of my expenses!!!
