cows milk ?

i saw my CHN today, and she suggested that if i wanted to i could give damon half water half cows milk for drinks... but still bf himas his main source..
he doesnt have any allergies to it.. been eating cheese, and having milk in cereal anyway:yes:

i asked.. what if he prefers the taste..will it effect his bf.. she said to give it to him a cup.. baby cup/ sippy...

so does anyone else do this...

it would save me some effort in expressing when i go out... ds feeds like 8 - 10 times a day..he's a boob man:D

would you do it/ have you.. any advice

if I was able to BF that long i wouldn't be suplementing it with anything. That is unless you want a break every now and then.

its not to supplement... just as an occasional drink:yes:.. just like juice or water..neither of which ds will drink:)

it will fill him up like BM would though thats why I said supplement. But if he's not taking juice or water I've got no idea. Give it a go and see what happens i spose.

im thinking i'll just use one bottle of ebm, then if he wants more they can try the cows milk

I have a boob obsessed DD, she would feed all the time if she could!:D

Anyways, I have tried the cows milk in the sippy cup and she will have a taste and then thru the cup away! But, she will drink more if DH is giving it to her.

PERSONALLY I wouldn't.

We stuck with BM (or formula in DS's case :() and only water in a sippy cup for at least the first year.

Still now, juice and milk are rarities (meaning occasional) excepting the bedtime bottles.

Grr scrap that.. I mean that juice in sippy cups is only occasional and they don't drink milk in cups at all, just at bedtime in bottles.

Whilst you can be giving it to them now at this age the idea is that you really only use it in cooking & on cereal ... Not even as a drink ... Water is best.

I wouldnt be doing it but then I really am against cows milk now so am probably not the best person to be replying lol.

Seriously he is getting all he needs from you & if you are away it wont be too bad for him to skip any fluids because you will find he will devour boobs when you arrive home lol. Lots of littlies are like this in regards to boob juice. As long as the person looking after him either keeps some water around or offers it to him then its all good.

Boof even on formula would not take water at all until he was around the 18mth mark .... Just wouldnt have a bar of it but all was good !

Cows milk isnt the end all & be all of calcium etc so just let him go he knows what he is doing :yes:

I just don't see the point. Honestly if he's feeding so great at the boob, why does he need anything else to drink? Breastfed babies don't need anything to drink other than breastmilk...

As for using it incase you duck out without him, i'd still prefer to pump, if you can it's better for bub all round!

Yep cows milk is evil .... Ok lets not go that far lmao but it certainly isnt all that its cracked up to be !
