My DD of 10 months has been waking up early for some time now. She wakes up between 4am - 5:30am and wont settle again untill I give her a bottle of which she knocks back and goes back to sleep til 7am. My mum says it is a bad thing to give her a bottle at this time. I have tried to get her to settle herself back to sleep but she'll winge for an hour if I let her! She is a really fussy eater too, so I'm concerned she's not eating enough solids during the day to get her through.
If I give her an early bottle, is it going to mean she'll start wanting one during the night?
I'm having another baby and I really want to get #1 DD sorted out!
Any advice from your experiences would be great:)

If it works for now, id go with it, But if it becomes a prob, over night etc, you may need to stop.
Maybe give it to her, but make the amount smaller each night, IYKWIM?
Otherwise i suggest ringing Karitane Help line
They are great and can help with lots of advice!

I breastfeed my 8 1/2 month old DD and she always wakes b/w 5 & 7am for a feed, then straight back to sleep for 2/3 hours. It's been like this for months now. I was just hoping she'd eventually grow out of it. I don't mind it too much as she drinks well at that time as she's still kind of sleepy and we can bond together. I guess it's up to you, how much it will affect you either way, does she really need the bottle? I think it's good, cos they go back to sleep (if they do) and are not grumpy when they wake up, hopefully, they will self-wean?

Lots and lots of babies/toddlers wake at this time.
Nothing unusual in this.
Perhaps circadian rhythm, perhaps hunger.
Sounds like feeding her at this time works as she goes back to sleep.
My boy is nearly 18 months and wakes at 4.00/5.00am for a drink of water, bum change and then back to sleep - most of the time.
I don't think that she will be waking during the night for a feed because of her 4.00am bottle, (although teething can throw a spanner in the works).
You haven't got much chance of changing her patterns, anyway - and if thats what makes her happy - why not continue to do it?
Howdy!
My little one does the same too! 4.30-5.30am every day! And he has been doing it pretty much since day dot! A few times he hasn't woken until 9am (ahhh heaven!) but it's rare! And when I feed him I hear his belly making noises so obviously he is STARVING! So I think it's pretty much fine. As long as you are happy with it! :D
Plus now I'm trying to make it my regular wake up time too. Because when I put him back down it gives me a chance to have a shower, a nice brekkie and do some chores and things. Then I try to get to sleep a bit earlier at night so I'm not too tired from waking up early! But then again I'm an early riser anyway ;)
