Hi there

Does anyone have any experience with thrush at all and what it looks and feels like??

i suffer from psoriasis on my skin which is really quite mild and is never itchy.

Since breastfeeding my baby who is now 2 weeks old i have developed these itchy red patches not on the nipple or aerola but surrounding my breast, mainly the bottom half of my breast.

To me I thought it was my psoriasis but this is actually irritated and itchy.

Im having to use a breast sheild and also the breast pads I guess don't give alot of air to the area when you are wearing a bra 24/7.

Does this sound like thrush at all to anyone???

I have just been diagnosed with a major urinary tract infection post birth and am on antibiotics which started yesterday. I also started acidopholous tablets yesterday too to try and aid in possibly not developing any further probs.

Any help or advice would be appreciative.

Boy its soo nice to be able to use this tool... especially when bubs finally sleeps for a bit !!!

I currently have thrush on my nipples but it is mainly on the tip not on the aereola. My twin boys have thrush in their mouths and in their nappy area too. Sometimes thrush in the babies mouth cannot be seen until a whitish film appears on their tongue, gums, cheeks and lips. I am currently using Daktoban on their nappy area and Daktarin oral gel in their mouths and on my nipples. Make sure you sterilise any teats and dummies you are using, use a clean towel every time you shower and hang your bras in the sun to sterilise. Hope this helps a little!!

Hi,

It doesn't sound like thrush to me. My thrush was like white plaque on my nipples.

Hope it gets better soon!

Check your baby's mouth first, if there are white spots that would be thrush and chances are you have it too. If you already suffer from skin problems and are breast feeding it could just be that the skin is aggrevated. Maybe try airing them for a bit, and maybe see a chemist about what you can put on them. There is this special cream, i can't remember what it was called Lanosol or something, that helps with cracked nipples etc whilst breast feeding and is safe for the baby too. The chemist would know.

Also if you can stand the taste of cranberry juice it is very helpful for urinary tract infections

I had thrush when my bubs was 3 weeks old and the lactation consultant picked it up because I had itchy breasts, not nipples or areala but the fleshy part, I just thought it was my bra as I get really dry itchy skin. DD had not symptoms in her mouth, just slightly on her bottom.
