View Full Version : Hospital booked up?
Hi all. This may be a strainge silly question. Sorry I'm new here and first timer :)
When exactly does maternity hospitals get busy? I heard there's a period of time when they're really busy and booked up sometimes and other times they're not. Sounds like we've mating season, huh? Strange :p
I know when I had DD it was christmas time and they were flat out - people were doing what they could to get bub out before christmas I guess. Plus christmas is 9mths after easter when people have 4 days off and not much to do;)

Apparently whenever I have a baby - you should be right for a good long while now!!
No, seriously though, I've heard the same thing, but I'm not sure when it is exactly. When I had DD in Oct 05, the hospital was completely flat-out. Just chokkas!
Then when I had DS in March 07, very busy again.

september is the busiest tie
9 months after christmas and new years
christmas is also busy but i think thats just lack of staff over the holiday period
trust me to have first baby at christmas and second in september
I also heard September- there was a midwife on Sunrise a few weeks ago and that was what she said!

Hmmm, out of my 3 bubs (June, Feb and August), February was the quietest, and August was the busiest, closely followed by June.
But I have heard September is usually the busiest time.
mid october is busy too as this is the time that the valentines babies arrive.!!!!
Hehee thanks girls.. really appreciate the months and experiences..
Am due April 25th, '09 am relieved so far none mentioned April (yet)!
p/s: talked to a friend whom works at the hosp, she agrees aug/sept/oct are always always busy! it's like ppl decides to have sex on valentines day and wallah!! lol!!

I think these days, most hospitals are busy most of the time. The closure of many smaller maternity units has meant that more women are birthing at fewer hospitals. That, and our sky-high CS rate (increasing the postnatal hospital stay) means over crowded maternity hospitals. Combine this with the shortage of midwives and you have a recipe for a really unsafe birthing environment, IMO.
august, sept and oct and december seam to be the busy times
august, sept and oct because people seam to get up to no good around xmas/ newyears  and december, because thats when maternity staff take their holidays so the lack of staff mean busy hospitals  well thats what my IM told me, and it seams to be true

I had DD in june and the hospital was lovely and quiet. I had DS in September and it was horrible. One woman would give birth. She would be taken out. Room cleaned and another straight in. Was like a baby factory. And my room was across the hall from the birthing rooms. I heard every single one of them born....

Oh good grief! That would do my head in.
I had my DD on September 8th and the hospital was less than half full. Although there were 2 beds in my room, I never had to share. But apparently the weekend before had been nightmarish! It would seem that it was simply luck.
