Hi there,

Have any of you had the german measles vaccine before ttc? I was just reading in my pregnancy book about it - I hadn't even thought of it. :(

Yep, I had an MMR booster about 5 years ago. There was a limited time when it was free (I think up to the age of 30 ?)

I had a blood test too before both pg. The shot i received at 15 is still protecting me.

Hi, I had a MMR (measles, mumps & rubella) booster when I was 18 years old (I am now 24). I had a blood test to check my immunity for German Measles/Rubella in December before TTC and it was okay. Ask your doctor for a blood test to see if you are immune.

Okay, thanks! Hopefully still immune from my shot when I was 13 cos I HATE needles ... I know, pregnancy is full of them ...

Usually when they do your blood test to confirm pg they will check your ruebella immunity at the same time which is what my doctor did & i was given the a ok !
But it is a good idea if ttc to have them checked as it can do no harm to protect yourself

Yeah, when I told my GP that I wanted to start TTC he sent me away for a blood test to test my immunity to all sorts of things - I didn't end up needing any vax, but its a good idea to check before TTC, because if you need a booster shot they might recommend that you hold off TTC for a time - to reduce the risks to the baby.

Same here ... had my levels checked and didn't need a booster.

You should also speak to your GP about a fluvax if you haven't had one already. They are recommending women who will be pregnant during winter (til October) get a fluvax.

Hi, I am 13weeks pregnant with #3 & my Rubella immunity screen came back very low, so pretty much I'm not immune. It's a rare conditon so I'm not overly concerned about it. I too had the vaccination when I was 13 & I'm now 32.
