It is similar to a banana but it is green and you have to cook it.

You can get them at certain fruit and veg shops (haven't looked for a bit), I've even seen them in Coles. My parents used to grow them, and we never cooked them, we just ate them like bananas. I always thought they were the same as bananas in that they started green before going yellow when ripe. Unless there is a different kind, I'd suspect you've been advised to cook them due to them not being ripe when you've bought them. The thing I always found distinctive about them was how their shape was more triangular than a banana.

Pegasaus I am suprised you ate them raw...wasnt it too starchy? Maybe is a different type, I am looking for the ones used in african/asian cooking to fry and eat with chilli/curry etc

Just checked up in Wikipedia - it seems that they are all the same fruit just different levels of ripeness...go green then yellow then black.

I imagine that because I ate them when yellow, that they were less starchy than when you've used them in cooking when green. I'll definitely keep my eye out for some and let you know when they've been spotted.;)
