View Full Version : How hard will studying be if.......
i was to study from home, with a 6 month old (atleast), 2.5 yo & 4.5 yo? With mums support?
i know studying can/was difficult, but that was High school - i have no idea how studying would be if i was to do at home with kids around.

I don't really have any info to help you but I am sort of in the same boat. I want to go back to study next year and currently have a 16 month old and a 12 week old. My course is only done on campus which sucks as the kids will have to go into day care when I'm there :(

I have DD at home with me fulltime and I am stdying part time externally. It is very difficult bt I don't have anyone to help look after her KWIM? It's her and me till Daddy gets home. Perhaps if I had someone to keep her occupied during the day I might find it easier. I'm sure it would be increasingly difficult the more children you have to care for.
It's not that I don't have time-it's quality, uninterrupted time that I lack. I find it takes me a ridiculous amount of timeto do simple tasks purely because I am constantly interrupted for little things. It's hard to get into and remain in"the flow" of work.
I find the juggle of all my responsibilities the hardest. I feel like everything gets only part of my attention-whether it be study, housework and errands or entertaining DD. I always feel guilty that I should be doing something else regardless of what I am actually doing.
It's difficult but if you are committed I'm sure it's possible.:)
Full-time or part-time, what do you think you'll be studying?
Do your 2 little ones play well together? 6 month old babes are usually in a predictable pattern by then. It's hard but you have to really make it a priority. 10 hrs per week per subject is what they recommend.
thanks ladies for your replies,
Im lucky in the sense i live next door to mums, so i have my parents support - mum really wants me to study but DH doesnt think i need to as we both agreed i would be a SAHM. (but thats a different can of beans)
I should be able to do 10 hours a week - which is about 1.5 every day -
My girls do play well together, they also fight just as well.
Im not the most organised person, but i use to love studying or atleast doing "homework". I love keeping myself busy but when im not i just become this lazy bum who wont budge for anything.
What i want to study??? i have no idea - i was thinking childcare but thats not really what i see myself doing.
I thought about teaching - but dont know if im "smart" enough....was never good at grammer.
I dont know seriously, how do you ladies do it? How did you decide? what gave you the confidence?

It is a hard slog but I keep in mind my reasoning that all the kids will be off to school soon enough and I don't want to be playing golf or shopping everyday but rather doing a job that I love and have passion for, being around pregnant mums and bubs.:D
If it got too hard at home I would go off to the public library for a few hours and it was easy to put things off rather then stick to a study schedule.
Just start of slow, lotsa taster/prep units through Open Uni and I'm sure you will enjoy it immensely.
