Just saw on the news the CEO of Macquarie Bank now earns:
$21million a year
$58K a day
$4,800 per hour
how on earth can they justify this when the PM only earns just over $200K plus perks??????????????? but certainly not $21million worth...............

And there's kids starving in Africa??? There's such an imbalance in the world. What would you spend $21 million on? The rich get richer and the poor get poorer!:banghead:

Yes, it is very out-of-step with every other wage in Australia (excluding other CEOs of course). Hopefully a lot of it is made up of stock options that will halve in price by the time he chooses to sell them!

I know I'd have no trouble finding things to spend it on it's just so disgusting to think that is someone in Australia's yearly income when the average Aussie is fighting for every cent they earn.
Gee I don't think I'll turn up to work today I'll take a sickie - nevermind I'll still get $58k for it - yeah right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mind you the movie stars incomes are just as disgusting in my book - well not in Oz but in US I think it's insane to pay someone millions of dollars to act a part.

And some of us who manage to earn a decent wage still cant afford a home of our own with the price of petrol and increase in living expenses overall!! Rediculous if you ask me!!

No argument from me there. Sounds like a very familiar scenario for a lot of us.

I agree with the rest of the thread - a $21 mil salary is just ridiculous!
But I don't agree with actors not being paid what they are - they make a lot of money for the companies who employ them, it is the actors who really earn the money for the rest of the people, and they are using a talent or a skill to do so - so I do think they have a right to be paid those amounts of money. Same as if a painter paints a picture that sells for millions - he has the right to be paid that money - he's done so using his skills or talents. I just wish I had a talent that would earn me millions of dollars!
That is absolutely ridiculous!!
Such imbalance in the world! 'Normal' people are struggling to pay off morgages and everything & this guy can go buy whatever the hell he wants! And all the poor people that dont have clean water, food, clothing etc.
Its just stupid what all the movie stars get paid!
Some people work just as hard as them but yet get paid a LOT LESS.
:banghead: :shame:

The rich get richer and the poor get poorer!
NO.
The rich get richer while the lazy sit on their bums!
Sorry, but that saying really annoys me.
It's only purpose is to blame outside influences for ones own lot in life, while offering an excuse to not try harder. There are many great people who have worked their way from nothing to be in these kinds of positions.
This salary may sound over the top, but i dont see anyone patting them on the back for the miliions they pay in taxes

There are also many great people who work their butts off 7 days a week and will never, ever have their deserved 'lot in life'. They're certainly not being lazy!

very true.
My post was really meant more to point out that a great deal of good also comes from these extreme salary's. EG the millions paid in taxes.
Of course we will never see a story showing what these tax $$ help to cover nor will we ever be told the amount of money these companies and individuals donate to various charities because positives rarely make for a good story :(

I totally agree, Mac Bank is a listed company with a board of directors and if they believe that their CEO is worth that much then I have no problem with it. He sure pays his share of taxes which amounts to $10 million a year! Plus the fact that the bank is a private organisation not a government one so ever if he wasnt paid that much, the money wouldnt go to roads or child care.
