Just wondering if a few of the teeth come in a bit crooked does that mean that the next ones will be too??? Should we start saving for dental work now? Or could they still sort themselves out???

My DS has one tooth on the bottom front that is not quite in line with the others (14 months). And my niece has some even more noticeable non-perfect teeth:D

What has been your experience?

If its just crooked coming through its not neccessarily going to be the case however if it is overcrowding it is likely in my experience.

Find a great pro active dentist and you will save yourself a fortune. When I got braces at 14 after seeing a different local ortho every year from the age of 10. The ortho who put my braces on said if he had seen me at age 10 he would have pulled 2 teeth and put a retainer mouth guard on me that would have cost my Mum about $400 instead of the $5k she spent on braces.... so she promptly had the brace installed on my brother (who if she had waited would have had to have had his jaw broken and reset)

A great dentist/orthodontist can save you a fortune  It is such a shame they are hard to come by and even harder to get in and see

hi, i dont know but crooked adult teeth could have more to do with heritage/ genetics. My four children had perfect baby teeth, and crooked second teeth. My girls not so bad but still needed braces, my boys had the most crooked second teeth, cost a fortune in braces, and even the wisdon teeth have come in on the cross and had to be removed. My hubby and I both dont have perfect teeth, over crowded, but not as bad as how my boys teeth were. I would think that the baby teeth are not much of an indication towards the second teeth, they are only temporary teeth after all. but I could be wrong.

if a child has spaces between baby teeth - chances are they will have perfet adult teeth without crowding. if their teeth are really close together then they will probably have crowding and need further orthodontic work. if you see a denitist early they can often help to correct/reduce problems before they get bad. children from 5 onwards should see a dentist at least once a year.

oh and the later the children lose their baby teeth - the better. that way their jaw has time to grow bigger to help fit all the teeth in. missing teeth are genetic - so if you or our other half are missing certain teeth (just never came down) then its a possibility that your child will be missing that tooth too.

the timing of loosing baby teeth is interesting as my sister lost hers really late (the orthodontists pulled one at 15 when she had her braces put on) and I lost mine at the normal rate and mine a pretty good -actually had a dentist go and ge the other dentist and the dental nurses etc all come it too look at my teeth as she thought I'd had braces!!! hopefully DD gets my teeth (although with DH's its hard to tell as he had a cleft lip and palate!)

Thanks!

That is really good, helpful information:yes:

DS seems to have good spaces. And I have a top gap with perfect bottom teeth (lost my last tooth - one of my top eye teeth at 14)
Hopefully our kids get my teeth instead of DH's crowded ones. :fingerscrossed:

Now - will just have to look for a good kids dentist in a few years:detective:
