Just wondering if anyone has any experience with the MGP, especially with the middies from the Coorparoo group?
If you have been through the program, what did you think of it, was it everything you expected or did you feel let down by anything?
I had a pretty traumatic experience 3 years ago and don't want to go through the same thing again. I have been allocated to the Coorparoo clinic and have met my primary middie, but just looking for some feedback from someone who's already been there done that.
TIA.
I've been through with them twice now. And made some fantastic friends.
I've just finished my 6 weeks post natal with them for Julian... and am quite sad about it. But my middie has said she definitely wants to stay in touch and she'll pop in for a cuppa, and for me to feel free to pop into clinic whenever just to touch base and let them see how the boys are doing.
Who's your middie?? All of them are excellent.
ETA: The care is excellent. They are so encouraging and thoughtful, and real advocates for your birthing rights. I had my VBAC with Jo Costello (and she was my middie this time too), I had Mel at the birth (well she didn't get there in time, lol, but I almost didn't either. ) and if you chat to her she had homebirths for her two children. Kerry and Jan are both wonderful as well. So you're in good hands whoever you have.

I had my vbac through the MGP- couldn't have been more happy with the care I received.. I do think you get out what you put in! So in the groups- talk, make conversation!!
OJ- I can't believe you've had another bub!!

I had both of my boys through mater midwives at coorparoo. I found all of them lovely although a few of them could be better trained....one scolded me as I must be eating too much takeaway or chicken with hormones as my baby was big-for-dates. I am preggers again and will go with them again.

I had my bub through them (I had Jo as well :D) and couldn't be happier, they were just wonderful, I had Kerry to begin with at my birth, and Jo came in at the end, but they were nothing but wonderful and supportive. I hope they take me again when we have our next one, unless my hubby caves and lets me have a homebirth
Who did you get?

I was in another MGP, but I had Kerry during my labour for my first who I believe is now in the Cooparoo group. She is absolutely fantastic!

Thanks for all your replies :goodvibes:
My middie is Jan - she spent about 2 hours doing my history and then spent an extra hour going through my first birth notes and reassuring me that she wouldn't let me go through that again.
I start my 'clinics' (?) in January and have started enquiring into hypnobirthing to help this time around :)

Absolutely brilliant! I felt so lucky to have gone through this avenue. The birth was everything I hoped it would be thanks to my MGP midwife. Can't rave enough

Hi there girls,
I am new to Bub Hub and first time preggy. I am just wondering about the MGP at Coorparoo your speaking about? Is this a public system or private? And is this opposed to shared care with your GP?
Im from NZ and things are different here, in NZ you are confirmed by a GP and then pick your own midwife and she is the one who looks after you from go to woe.
I have figured that is not how things happen here.
Please help if you can ..
Thanks

The MGP is a public program (free if you are entitled to Medicare) run through (most?) public hospitals (i.e. I know it is at the Mater and Ipswich). When we say 'Coorparoo' - it is just where the local group meets. There are several regional groups, depending on where you live will depend which group you are assigned to and where your meetings will be. (If all the groups are the same -) each group has 4 middies who care for 4 women per month, so it can be very difficult to get into and you need to get in early!!
You will need to have your pregnancy confirmed by your GP, ask for a referal to the Mater (or other?) MGP system. Even if you don't go for the MGP, you still need to be referred to your preferred hospital! Your GP will probably refer you for your first scan, which can either be an early dating scan (4-8 wks) otherwise they may just wait until you are 12 weeks.
Basically from there the middies take over your care, you will probably see the hospital OB once just to - hmmm I don't know what he does, my appt only took 5 mins  - and your middie will refer you for any routine tests etc. You have 24hr phone access to your middie, or if she is off duty it goes to one of the others you meet at the group. After the birth you get up to 6 weeks post-natal care at home.
From what I have heard about NZ midwifery care, the MGP will provide a very similar system of care and natural birthing philosophy.
If you really want a natural birth with someone you have some sort of relationship with then the MGP is definately the way to go - but places are limited, so if you are really keen make sure you push and follow things up - it is a 'public' system afterall and sometimes you have to make yourself heard and 'coach' things through
PM me if you have any other questions I haven't covered. :)

Hi Trin_007,
Thank you so much for your reply, I enquired about Coorparoo because thats where I live.
Had my confirmation visit with GP today, am having bloods tomorrow and GP visit again next friday.
GP said he will do referral to Mater next week. All very new but we are very excited.
I like the sound of the MGP but will investigate all options.
Thank you so much for your reply. was very helpful.
