I haven't seen the news article on it but my SIL just told me that there is apparently a new vaccination coming out in two weeks for gastroenteritis!

This year alone, 10,000 babies and children have been admitted to hospital because of gastroenteritis...

The vaccine will cost approximately $200... but i was thinking of getting it for DD as she has had gastroenteritis three times in the last two months! It's continuously going around the daycare centre and when one gets it, they all seem to get it, including the parents!! I know i've had it twice out of the three times DD has had it, and her father and family too. So maybe i should go and get it for her. I'm sure i could make room for the payment, if its guaranteed to work!

As I understand it, the vaccine is specifically for Rotavirus.

I watched the news earlier tonight and found out that they have only tested it on babies up to 6 months old... so if they don't do it any later than that then DD is out im afraid...

It is to be given like Noo said from the age of 2 - 4mths & thats because during this time babies are at their most vunerable.
Its also not a vaccine as in a needle type but is an oral medicine with a 85 - 100% sucess rate with no side effects.
They are also looking into it being put on the PBS.
